Your car has hydraulic valves, which means they are not adjustable. If they are clattering, you may need to change the oil (If it is dirty) and run some cleaner through the motor. What I mean is, add the cleaner to the fresh oil and filter you put in the motor. 50 years ago, we used to add a quart of automatic transmission fluid to the oil to clean the motor. Automatic transmission fluid is basically colored detergent. We would then drain the oil and transmission fluid when it got dirty, like maybe 500 or 1000 miles. You do not want to put too much oil in the motor, so you would substitute the tranny fluid for the last quart of oil. Be blessed.
I would not use it unless your owners manual specifys Dexron. I know on the Gen. 1 Voyagers ie.1984 to 1990 They required Mopar ATF+3 or transmission damage and failure was common if DEXRON was used.
raise and secure on stands. loosen transmission pan bolts one at a time, starting back to front. do not completely remove them just yet. have a bucket or pan ready to catch about 1 gallon of fluid.when all are loose gently pry downward on rear of pan to break seal.careful..fluid will come out at this point.one at a time remove rear bolts to allow pan to drop a little at a time.once pan is removed, remove old filter. clean pan and all mating surfaces. make sure there is no oil or grease on gasket surfaces. install new filter and filter gasket(small round rubber gasket).install new gasket and pan. tighten bolts evenly but dont over tighten.refill with clean fluid and check for leaks.make sure to check fluid level after each quart is added. engine should be running to get proper reading.too much or too little can damage your transmission.
How many miles? I'm guessing 150k atleast. A complete transmission flush/pan filter is probably your only option. Other than that, it is mechanical and needs to be rebuilt or the torque converter replaced, etc. Basically, if the flush/pan filter doesn't work, you probably need a new vehicle.
TO CHANGE THE FLUID YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN IF YOU DO SO ADD 4 QTS BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE THE YOU CHECK IT WITH ENGINE RUN TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL ADD UNTIL FULL YOU FILL IT FROM THE DIPSTICK TUBE THAT IS IN THE FRONT NEXT TO THE BATTERY TRAY
