Check the TCCM. It is located behind the passenger kick panel. A poor design caused water to leak onto the wiring. If there is evidence of water damage, remove the wiring harness, and dry it with a blow dryer.

Your transmission has 3 shift rails... 1st - 2nd 3rd -4th 5th- Reverse
If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.
your transmission has possibly been rebuilt with stronger springs put in. No worries. have been running mine for along while without any problems. Better this than slipping, but it is a bit annoying.
