SOURCE: need to wire a toggle switch to the horn for it

Assuming you don't have any other problems to deal with like a bad horn relay, you would want to intercept the horn signal wire going up into the steering column and wire that to the switch such that it gets grounded by the switch when you want the horn to honk. Since a toggle switch could be left on for an extended amount of time, I would think a momentary switch of even a push button type might be a better choice?

The horn relay is used to allow for large current flow going to the horn itself without forcing that same amount of current to flow thru the horn switch in the steering wheel for example, which might be easily burnt out without the relay's buffering effects. Even a large macho toggle might not be able to handle a horn's current if used regularly. The load for a raw horn is highly inductive (arcing, sparking) in addition to being a very large current draw of 10 amps or better, both conditions tend to make kindling of everything but the most robust switches. Those switches when you do find them cost the big dollar$.

You might just need a horn relay, they do have a lot of work to do - they are allowed to wear out occasionally considering their use.

SOURCE: I need a simple diagram on how to install a push

its hard to provide a schmatic without pictures but here is what you would need ... i assume you are using a three position toggle switch with a spring loaded position for start ... all contacts would be off at first .. contact #1 would be off, on , on ... that would switch 12 volts to the ignittion ballast resistor that is in series with the coil (normal running position).. contact #2 would be off, off, on (spring loaded) ... that would jumper the ballast resistor only for starting (that compensates for normally low battery voltage while running the starter) .... the third contact would also be off, off, on (spring loaded) . that would cnnect 12 volts to the starter relay .. that contact would have to be rated for the current drawn by the starter relay .... if you wanted a different switch arrangment ..like a toggle switch for ignition and a seperate push button for start .. then the ignition toggle would just provide 12 volts to the balast resistor that is in series with the coil ... it would only need one contact off,on .. the push button would have to have two contacts both operate at the same time .. one conntact would jump the balast resistor when on (start) .. the second would provide 12volts to the starter relay.. the second switch configuration might be easier to find than the first ...

How do I start my 1987 Dodge Dakota without a key

You can also do it off the ignition solenoid under the hood. I rigged my friend's 85 RamCharger that way once. His key switch went bad and he needed a way to get home. Look for the post that has the IGN marks by it then run a jumper to the hot post for the battery. You should see your gauges come on when you have done it right. You will need a toggle switch for the ignition system and a push button for the starter. You will need to hook up the jumper for the ignition circuit to the toggle switch on one side and the battery side of the toggle switch to the other side. The push button will be for the neutral safety bypass. if you do your wiring right you should have a toggle switch that turns on you ignition system and a push button switch that engages your starter. Make sure the wire is heavy enough for the voltage amount for the toggle switch

I'm running a toggle switch for my key and a push

Hi, connect the big hot wire from the fuse link to both the switch and the push button. On the other side of the switch, connect the pink, pink/black, and brown/white wires. Finally, connect the yellow wire to the other side of the button. Please let me know if you have any questions.

You need to get a diagram and have several switches to run all you need to run, unless this is a" race track" only car. there are wires for Radio, windows, Ignition system, Start, run, ect. Think of al the things that work only with the key on.

The mechanic should check on the ignition system first . Check the ignition switch, the ignition coil , the spark plug , the spark plug cable , the distributor assembly and the wires and the fuses.Check if there are worn out or destroyed then replace it. And then set the distributor timing mark and the firing order of the spark plug which is 1,3,4,2.These 1,3,4,2 are the number of the spark plug connecting to the distributor assembly. Then try to start the engine .The cause of the engine back fire is ignition timing not in order.

Cannot start changing pugs and wires

Sounds like you have the firing order right but your off on the #1 on the distributer. Every time you get an explosion coming from the carb its misfiring. Find the #1 on dist and continue with firing order

Check the resistance of the pick-up coil in the distributor. Reading should be between 800 to 1200 ohms. Disconnect the two wire connection at the distributor control module to measure the resistance.
Let me know.
