My 2003 Town & Country van does not advance wow driving with the steering wheel going straight. If I turn the steering wheel to the left or right, it will move forward. When straightened out it stops
The van does not turn off however. It stays on it just does not move forward. It had a new transmission put in a year and a half ago.
That sounds reasonable...everyone who has looked at it says it needs a new transition. I'll suggest this to the next person I consult with. If they made a right hand drive model you would need to get the front clip, steering, harnesses, dash and interior for it. Then have a body shop remove the front of your van and install the front from the right hand drive. Literally everything from the steering wheel forward would have to be removed in order to make it work. You would be looking a tens of thousands of dollars to make this happen.
check for central position of the rack/ steering box. If there has been recent work on the steering ,it is possible that the box/rack was not in the straight ahead position before it was connected up.
Check for wiring that moves when you turn the wheel. The harness may be tangled in the steering linkage. This could be under the car or under the dash by the steering column. It could even be the ignition switch wiring.
Are the front wheels turned all the way left or right?
The steering mechanism may be locked, When it is the key cannot turn. If they are turned "hard" left or right pull down in the direction they are turned...it will be hard to pull AND at the same time turn the key. This should unlock the key IF the wheels are turned this way.
Let me know if this helped and if there is any additional information I should know to help you!
when turning left vehicle distributes weight to right front wheel bearing causing load. since u describe a noise in right front while driving straight i would suspect failed right front wheel bearing. see if your noise changes/goes away while turning right that should tell u 4 sure
