Do you have disk or drum brakes in the rear?, you may need to adjust your drum brakes, take wheel and tire off, spin the drum if it spins more than 11/2 turns your rear brakes need to be adjusted or change, the drum should fit tight, hope this helps ya if not your wheel bearing are probably a gone, .

That could be

- loose wheel nuts
- collapsed rear hub bearing
- worn or faulty rear suspension links behind the hub

Don't drive it until that is fixed. You may need to call a mobile mechanic to the car.

Bad wheel bearing. I do believe yours are pressed in. You can remove the spindle and take it to a shop and have them replace the bearing.

SOURCE: tire sizes

Open the front drivers door... or the passenger side front door... there should be a sticker there indicating correct tire sizes as well as pressures.

Finding the fuel filter on my 1999 mercury cougar

Jack up the right rear side of the, the fuel filter is behind the right rear tire toward the front side of the fuel tank. You will need a special fuel line clip release tool to get the line off.

The passenger rear tire is leaning out & it rides like it lost its suspention on the same side

Sounds like a broken strut or control arm, jack it up (if possible) remove the tire and check for breakage.

I am thinking of buying 1999 mercury cougar auto trans V6, ad says needs gear postion sensor. Should I buy? IF YES HOW DO CHANGE GEAR POSITION SENSOR, HOW MUCH?

I have one of those cars and personally, would not recommend it to anyone period...same year, with the 2.5l v6 and auto, it just hit 103,000 miles and its poor quality car, front end shakes with new tires, had to replace rear hubs which are same as a Ford Contour(also junk) there are alot of similarities to the contour... took it off the road and replaced it with a 1997 civic 5 spd with 169,000 miles...problem solved

Mercury 2001 cougar V6 startor problem

Have the car put up on a lift or jack up and support with jack stands. Loosen the two bolts holding it up. It is located at the rear of the engine close to the transmission on the drivers side. disconnect the wires and mark so when you put it back in you will know where the wires go.
