you have 2 options
1--- put the fuel return line into the tank you are using
2--- install a balance line between tank 1 and tank 2 so that the fuel back to tank1 is allowed to balance back into tank 2
properly set up the tanks should be connected so that the fuel gauge reads the total fuel in the tanks and there is a need for only one fuel pump
it sounds like the switching valve is no good and needs replacing.you can clamp off the fuel hose to the rear tank and just run off the front tank until you can get it repaired.
If fuel is draining from the rear tank to the front, there is a tank shuttle valve located on the drivers side frame rail that is the most likely suspect to fix that.
It costs around $120 or so, and when it fails, you get that siphoning going on, and often the front tank wont pump at all.
In your case, if the engine is running rough off the front tank, you might have another issue, such as a bad in tank fuel pump, but the shuttle valve needs changed first , so maybe it might fix the other problem too!
It Could Be That The Fuel Sending Unit For The Back Tanks Is Bad And Just Show You It Fuel When Its Really Empty Try putting A Little Gas In That Tank And See If Problem Still Persists On Not
A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.
There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.
will it run off the rear tank?if you have power too the rear pump and the truck runs off it ,its prob a bad pump in the front tank, you need too drop the front tank and replace the pump
