Subaru Legacy GT 1997 power steering problem

I recently had alternator problems that caused the powersteering and ABS lights to turn on in the car. I have fixed the alternator and the ABS light has gone out. The power steering light is still on. I tried to locate a fuse for the power steering but couldn't find a burnt out fuse in the car. Is there another fuse in the main fuse box that needs changing? Or is it something totally different. There was no sign that the steering was going bad prior to the alternator going bust. I checked the fluid and the filter had black residue at the bottom. Could it be that I need to flush the fluid?

In need of some help!

Cheers!

Thanks for this, I'll have a look. The only thing is that the steering light came on prior to the alternator being replace, I'll check it though! Thanks for that!

How to tighten fan belts on 1997 Subaru 2.2 Legacy

there are no fan belts - there is a alternator/power steering belt and a air conditioning belt. There is an adjustment bolt that you will need to tighten. You want to have roughly 1/4" of slack or so after tightening the belt. I recommend taking a look at a service manual for the location.

The battery went dead in my 97 subaru legacy gt and was dead for a while. i relaced the battery and now the parking lights blink and when i start the car it wont idle it shuts off. does something need...

Under the dash to the left of where your left leg would sit is a box. 4" x 4". It is your security box. There is either a red button on it or a wire with a button. push the button for about 15 seconds and it will reset the security system. Good luck and have a great day.

How do i bleed my power steering rack on subaru legacy rs turbo

if its been a week, there should no tbe any air. if its heavy, the rack could be bad, or weak pump????? any noises? air will usually cause a whiney noise, and there will be air whipped, foamy fluid in the pump. A pump pressure regulator could be stuck open, not allowing full pressure? I would have a shop diagnose it, tell them the history and see if they can find a cause.
