Is that mileage in miles or km. Either way that isn't bad for a 20 year old vehicle. You need to try and get a better look at the exhaust smoke's colour. Is it definitely Grey or is it more of a Blue?
Blue suggests the engine is burning engine oil so it might be worth getting the head gasket checked. Take a look in the coolant reservoir for oil floating on the top of the coolant and remove the oil filler cap to look for a 'mayonnaise' like build up.
Grey exhaust smoke suggests the engine exhaust system isn't breathing correctly so get the Crankcase Ventilation system checked.
You must also keep in mind older, higher mileage engines will have worn piston rings and cylinder bores so a very small amount of oil burning will be expected especially on a cold start up.
Read through the attached web site it might help.
Hello there,
It seems that you may face a problem with your car. Types of
smokes coming out of tail pipe are as follows:
WHITE - Water coolant leaking into engine or Cracked
Cylinder head.
BLUE - Oil leaking in to combustion chambers that is an
Engine problem. Piston Ring faulty
BLACK - Engine is flooded with Gas. Clogged Air Filter
GREY - Trouble in Transmission Fluid. Faulty Vacuum
Modulator.
Is it black? black smoke means you are burning too much gasoline could be a bad choke or even a dirty air filter.
Blue smoke means you are burning oil out of your engine
.White means water getting into crank case or pistons.
It sounds like you may have overheated your engine or the cylinder head gasket is leaking. The grey smoke is normally due to coolant getting into the combustion chamber and being turned to what looks like grey smoke but is actually steam. Check your coolant level and if it is dlow this will be your problem. The only way to correct the problem would be to have the head gasket replaced.
The smoke is blue, correct?
When you changed the oil separator, did you clean out the hose that goes from the valve cover to the oil separator?
The next suspect for smoking at idle would be the intake valve seals, but that would be the first time that I ever heard of a problem there.
the ERG valve has packed up,just pull the vacumn operating pipe off that comes from the valve on the side and goes to teh ERG valve and it will work fine without it ,trust me
