How do i clear the change engine oil soon message. It's a 2007 silverado.

The "Change Oil" message displayed on your Chevrolet Silverado's gauge cluster is part of the Oil Life Monitoring System, standard on many GM (General Motors) vehicles. The message appears when it's time for an oil-change; the interval is based on your driving habits (for example, it may appear more frequently if you engage in a lot of stop-and-go traffic). Once you change your Chevy's oil, the message will not disappear; the system must be reset. The process is a bit different between Chevy Silverado models.

Uplander oil service idecator rest" 2007 model year

Not a problem. Comes on based on miles, so you should also change the oil. But you need to manually reset the counter.

Chevrolet Uplander, 2005-06 Chevrolet Venture 2001-05
With the ignition key in RUN but the engine off, repeatedly push the trip/reset button until OIL is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIG).
Once “OIL” is displayed, push and hold the trip/reset button for five seconds.
The number will disappear and be replaced by 100 (indicating 100% oil life remaining).
Turn the key to OFF. If the “CHANGE ENGINE OIL” message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset.
Repeat the procedure.

I have been getting Charging System Failure messages on my instrument panel and when this happens the steering freezes up (no power steering). I have had it into the dealer and they changed the alternator...

your idle air controller valve on the throttle body may be no good.if the idle speed drops too low,the alternator will have no output, and the steering rack which on the uplander i believe is electric like the cobalt, will not put out enough drive.if you shut off the vehicle, but leave the ignition on,and it has an electric rack, the steering should still work.if it doesnt it is hydraulic assist.if the idle speed goes to say 400 rpm,the power steering will not work .when this happens, check the tachometer what the rpm is...
