Hi,
find the fuse box(maybe on the inside by the front door hinge) and usually on the inside of the cover is the diagram for the fuses, usually the cig lighter and the horn are on the same fuse, use a pair of needle nose pliers or a puller and to replace it, if it pops right when you put the fuse in you have a short somewhere your going to have to figure out why its doing that. if it pops when you push the lighter in the lighter has shorted and you have to get a new one or go to the junkyard for an exact replacement. Hunting down shorts is usually pretty extensive to do but you can try. Buy the Haynes or Chilton book for the car and begin troubleshooting with a multimeter set at DC20v. I would start at the socket you use the most. study how your dash goes together, or how the rear part comes undone in the back, look for areas of soot or charring. If its too overwhelming take it to an auto electric guy in your area, avoid the dealership unless its still under warranty$ good luck

Rear cigarettte lighter in 05 Saturn Vue

I have had the same problem. Dealer said it was a corroded wiring connection. They changed it and problem was fixed. I suspect a lot of corrosion problems will occur eventually on my Saturn including the rear wiper wiring, which has gradually stopped working.

How do i replace the cigarette lighter socket on my 19994 geo prizm

Disconnect the battery!

Disconnect the wire from the rear of the cigarette lighter.

Grip the rear of the lighter, and the front chrome ring and twist counterclockwise. The two pieces will separate.

Wrap electrical tape around the open lead under the dash to prevent future electrical issues.

You can purchase a "plug" for the hole in the dashboard from most auto parts stores.

Cigarrette lighter (front) in 2002 ford explorer

Hi Rudy

You will have to inspect the cigarette lighter closely, I suspect your son has bent the 2 terminals that make contact with the lighter, and this will continually giving you a dead short and blow your new fuse.
As for the other problem, your idea of shrink insulation sounds perfect.

Good Luck !
John.
