At the column, where the lock set goes into. There be a small hole or slot. Turn the key to the run position(sometimes slightly past) and insert a paper clip/ small screwdriver in the hole and push down as you pull out the lock set. The lock set has a spring loaded tab in it to keep it from coming out.

1998 nissan maxima replaced starter but still wont start turn the key and lights come on will not crank

I think you need new ignition switch. not the whole ignition, but switch which is mounted to the back of the ignition cylinder. its a round white portion of the switch that has wires coming out of it and its attached to the ignition switch assembly. that white switch portion is what gives starter power to turn.

  1. Position the vehicle with the front wheels in a straight ahead position.

The car will turn over but won`t start but if I turn the key on and jump the starter it starts

Sounds like the ignition switch has gone kaput. The ignition switch come in two pieces, an electrical switch and a mechanical switch.

The switch electrical portion can be replaced separatly from the mechanical portion (tumbler that the key engages). It is not a real difficult repair but requires some mechanical knowlege of how the column is assembled.

This can be verified with electrical test equipment prior to buying a new electrical switch.

My 97 maxima shuts off while driving only sometimes. completely unpredictable but only when in gear. three mechanics have not been able to figure it out. i do notice that its more prevalent when the engine...

i would be looking at the ignition switch it self. not the piece where you put your key, but the piece that is the electrical portion of the switch, which is on the back of the ignition switch assembly. you dp not need to replace the whole ignition switch assembly (mechanical part). you need the electrical switch only, which runs about $50. i would start there.

Remove ignition lock to switch link 1995 suburban

The ignition lock assembly contains two components: a lock cylinder to deter theft and an electrical portion that supplies power to electrical components such as the radio, electric windows, and windshield wipers. The electrical portion of the ignition switch also provides power to the starter motor to start the engine.
The ignition lock is an anti-theft device that prevents a vehicle from being driven unless the ignition key is in the ignition switch. If the ignition key is not in the ignition switch, it 's impossible to turn the steering wheel.
To replace the ignition switch cylinder lock, the trim panels around the steering wheel are removed. Then the tamper-proof hardware that attaches the ignition lock assembly to the steering column is removed. The ignition lock assembly is removed from the steering column, and the lock cylinder is replaced. The new ignition lock is reattached to the steering column, and the trim panels are replaced.make sure you dissconect battery first the 1997 had a recall on the ignition switch dont no if the 1995 had a recall if so they will replace for free

95 nissan quest neutral switch starter does not engage when key is turned on

No click from starter at all? Check charge on battery , check voltage at solenoid on starter when trying to start. Could also be faulty ignition switch. Remember this unit is more of a ford product than a Nissan.
