Have the vehicle check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Most all parts stores will do it free of charge . They will also do charging system testing .

That charging system is what is called a smart charging system ,computer controlled . Hooking a professional type scan tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . should be first step in diagnostic process . Not guessing an throwing parts at it .

07 pontiac gran prix. acted like alams system went off while driving then completely died. new battery, new alternator. charging system failur, service alarm system light came on before died.

Most probable cause is a discharged battery due to a failure in the charging system (regulator inside the alternator or problem in the wiring from it to the battery, such as a fusible link). Load test the battery - if discharged, charge it and test the charging current.

I replaced the starter in my 08 uplander. Now my dash reads charging system failure. my alternator checks out to be good but it wont keep my battery charged.

check that the charge wire was properly connected as some use the positive wire on the starter as the charge circuit back to the battery

My 07 uplander wont start most times. and the charging system failure message keep coming on

Sounds like an alternator/battery issue. When it does start, if your voltage gauge isn't close to the 14v mark or the upper end of the gauge, then your alternator isn't charging. If your alernator is charging then your battery might have a dead cell and won't take a charge from the battery. In this case the best thing to do is take the battery to your local part store and have them charge it and test it. Most of the chain stores do it for free.

Why did it stop running after intermittent charging system failure?

If the charging system was not working, it is possible the battery drained enough to have caused this problem. If the computer senses low enough voltage, it will shut the vehicle down to protect the electronics from being damaged

New battery and alternator. Battery still won't hold charge

Check all your fuses if you had a system failure it could have blown a fuse. I am not sure on your vehicle where the fuse is in the car or under the hood it could also have a relay. You can check your alternator by checking the voltage at the back of the alternator where the big wire bolts on. You should have 14+ volts at the alternator.
