Unexplained loss of coolant

whenever you have an unexplained loss of coolant...and you positively know your not leaking from the hoses....your car is warning you of impending doom!
My old 89 Beretta had 280k miles on it when i noticed the low coolant light come on, so i topped it off and problem went away, i had no coolant line leaks and just attributed this to old age..i only had to top it off every two weeks, but after a year or so it started getting worse and it was like every week now, after 295k it started running rough and then it went away after driving it about two miles and then it started overheating badly, so i looked inside the radiator and half the coolant was gone, so i felt the upper radiator hose and it was cold, never got hot! it was a stuck thermostat! it was corroded shut! and then i let the car cool completely (took off the radiator cap) and watched it warm up and my worse nightmare was confirmed, bubbles coming out the top and overflowing...blown head gasket!....so my advice is never ever let your car overheat if you can help it, (everytime you do it stresses the gaskets).. and if it does, turn on the heater full blasts, and pull off to the side off the road and check to make sure your fan is working! ...i fixed the problem somewhat though, with "blue devil" gasket sealer, 500 miles after changing five plugs, and runs great, i just cant get the #2 plug out, because that is where the cracked head or gasket problem is. So whenever your car overheats badly or starts to overheat a lot, change out your plugs, and put some antiseize compound on them or you probably wont be able to get them out later when you need too! The old #2 plug only has 10k on it, so i"ll just leave it in, dont want to risk snapping it off!
Blue devil is a bandaid fix!...the correct way to fix your "low mileage" vehicle is to forkout the grand it will take to changeout the gaskets.

Where do I put the Blue Devil head gasket sealer stuff in my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am where do I put it at

You put this in your car radiator when the engine is cold, Then you run it for 50 minutes and it is supposed to seal the leak. Then you add any additional coolant back in the radiator. Note that it goes in the radiator and not the radiator reservoir.

2000 Honda Odyssey. My problem is when I do not

With vehicle operating, take it to local auto parts store and have them wheel their diagnostic cart out to vehicle. They will check it complimentary and likely find your issue.

Honda Odyssey Coolant System Prob.

You may have air in the system. Run the car with the cap removed and the defrosters on allowing air to escape. Add antifreeze as needed to keep full while running. Fluid level will drop as thermostat opens.

1999 Honda crv running hot

hi i don't know what mechanic you went to but blown head gasket will cause the engine not to idle/run right. usually when you replace the thermostate you have to then run the car obviously with water in the radiator and crack the little screw where the thermostate is located. this will allow the car to release any trapped air in the lines and you may need to keep topping up the radiator. im not a mechanic but i know alot about cars. i came across this problem in my holden ute. it was running hot and that was why. too much trapped air. easiest way is too crack that screw and remove it. run the car while keeping an eye on the radiator water level you will see if there is air in there it won't squirt water out continuously once it does run continously turn the car off put the screw back in warning it will be quite hot retop te radiatior if need and you should be good too go. it solved the same problem i had. have fun cheers

The car keeps overheatnig. It was good for a minute after putting some coolant in it, but when you drive it or just turn it on sitting in the driveway after about 2 minutes the therometer is all the way up...

if its the thermostat your lucky easy fix just replace it but wait until the engine is cold the bolts are a nightmare to get to you have to take off air hose and disconnect a couple coolant hoses move them aside to get to the thermostat housing on the side of the engine tricky getting to that bolt.

if its the head gasket flush the radiator with flushing agent
first drain the coolant from bottom radiator hose replace with flushing agent run car idle about 10 minutes then
remove the thermostat replace the thermostat housing then fill the coolant back up leave room for blue devil head gasket sealant about $65.00 follow the directions to the tea run for 50 minutes if it doesn't work that baby needs to get in the shop
hope this helps don't forget to rate if I was helpful.
good luck
