It's hard to know exactly what the issue is without a better, specific diagnosis.Since you can't take your car to the shop without an expensive tow fee, you can buy an Mini Bluetooth OBD2 OBDII EOBD Scanner Adapter Automotive Check Engine reader to plug into your car. (usually under drivers dash side) You can find them on amazon or ebay.

I have an adroid smart phone, so I use google play store to find apps. Torque Lite (OBD2 & Car) is FREE
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torquefree&hl=en
you simply use that app to connect to the OBD2 reader, which then links into your cars computer, and that will tell you on your smart phone, an error code.Torque lite makes it an hyperlink and you just click on the error code and scroll down. Some codes are general, some are specific to the make of your car. This will help you talk more informed with someone at an auto parts store to help you further with your issue.
