There should be a petcock(drain valve) on the bottom corner of the radiator. Turn it counterclockwise till coolant starts draining. Have a drain pan under the valve.

Have 1995 olds cutlas with v6 3100 engine. engine runs great at idle and lots of power when cold. after driving for 150 miles car starts cutting out and loosing power under load. still idling great at that...

could be a fault with the fuel pump. it may be wearing out. check the fuel pressure at delivery. a blocked filter can also do this as its being surged for more fuel not the normal filter this one is on the pump it has larger holes and if you have sludge in the tank this can stop the fuel delivery. . for vacuum leaks spray some carb cleaner around the air lines any change in the engine usually indicates an air leak. also the fuel pressure valve these can all lower or stop fuel pressure.

I have an 1990 olds cutlas, i'm loosing water from somewhere, the water pump was just replaced the low coolant light will not go off. and i'm still leaking water from somwhere. not sure if it is the block...

Do you see coolant on the ground or is the coolant just disappearing? If you see coolant dripping onto the ground it is an easy find. Open the hood and look in the general area of the leak. follow it up to the starting point. Us a mirror and flash light to look into areas you can not see. Always start at the lowest part and move up until you do not see wet. Use water as coolant will get expensive till fixed. If your coolant is disappearing check your engine oil / dipstick see if the oil is gaining the coolant. If so, stop / do not drive it no where no how, have it towed to a repair shop. If it is running out the tail pipe, is ok to drive but needs repair quickly.

Water Pump Question

Usually they will make a lot of noise and/or leak like a sieve! If not, and you are having cooling issues, I would look at other components first.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or inPuddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
