What make , model and year vehicle ? It makes a difference . It does start but stops running right away ? Before replacing the pump and regulator did you do a fuel pressure test ? Hooking up a fuel pressure gauge ? Or just guessing that was the problem ? And did your test the electrical circuit of the fuel pump ?

What cause fuel system to loose pressure new fuel pump installed also new filter & relay pump cranks 65 psi a run until pressure drops and quits, it might start, fuel pressure regulator ?

if it cranks at 65 psi the problem will not be in the regulator as the pump is producing enough fuel to exceed what the injectors need
What is happening is that the pump is not capable of delivering enough fuel to maintain that pressure when running so look for venting problems , hoses collapsing internally or blockage in the tank pick up

Replace the fuel pressure regulator, it isn't holding pressure
It's on the fuel rail on the passenger side, and are quite fond of failing on Ford engines. It is really simple to change, only two bolts, and not even that hard to access

2000 dodge neon will run on starting fluid once, then no start

You're either out of gas or you need a new fuel pump.
Roll the keys back to the 'off' position.
Have someone sit by the back tire and listen as you roll the key forward until the lights on the dash come on DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OVER.

If they hear the pump then you're out of gas, if they don't hear the pump your pump is likely burned up.

Is there anything I can check on my car before I buy a new fuel filter on a 2000 pontiac grand am?

See if you have fuel pressure in the system. You should hear the pump turn on for two seconds when you turn the key from run without starting the engine. If you do hear it, see if you have furl pressure on the steel fuel line under the hood. Look for a knurled cap on the line in the vicinity of the fuel pressure regulator or back side area around the TBI depending which yours is equipped with. Just remove the cap and depress the center of the valve- it will look like an oversized version of the bicycle tire stem in a fashion. When pressed, there should be some spray of gas.

When a filter clogs, the process is uaully slow. Abd ib extreme cases, when it plugs enough to stall the vehicle, once stopped, the sediments have enough time to fall away to allow some fuel through, whereupon it will run for a short period of time and quit. And do this for any number of attempts..

2000 Grand AM GT wont start. Sounds like the fuel pump runs for about 5 seconds when the key is turned on but no pressure at the fitting at the engine injectors. It turns over and wants to run on either so...

if it runs on either then it;s a fuel problem.the fuel pump may be humming but not producing enough pressure to the engine. i would do this first.replace the fuel filter and then if no help, replace the fuel pump. it;s in the gas tank and quite a bit of work to replace.put protective eyewear on,turn your key to the 'on' position and check for fuel on your engine fuel lines. if it pumps great ammount of fuel like that, your problems elsewhere.may be bad fuel pressure regulator, located on the fuel rail at the end where the fuel goes into injectors. thank you for choosing fixya.com

Need help my 2000 grand am (4cyl) just dies as I am driving on freeway. 3rd time now not sure do I start to change fuel pump?

troubleshoot it first. see if you can check fuel pressure--maybe you can borrow a pressure gage from autozone. you can also try taking the vacuum hose off the pressure regulator at the end of the fuel rail. Stick a golf tee in the hose and see if the car runs any better with max fuel pressure. Definitely change the fuel filter (back of tank) before going after the pump. Let us know if you have more questions.

I put a new fuel pump in and still wont start

ok if the fuel pump is energizing and you can hear it turn on then the pump is working fine and you probably have a restriction. i would replace the fuel filter. when you replace the pump did you replace the strainer on the pump? if not then thats where your problem lies. also could be the fuel pressure regulator also. there is a schrader port on the fuel rail try taking a pen and press down on the core to see if fuel squirts out. or connect a fuel pressure guage to the port and see if you have the right fuel pressure. it should run between 35 and 47 psi

the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator are 2 different parts, the regulator is on the engine the fuel pump inside the gas tank.
