Check and make sure that you're putting the gas cap on or the cap could be bad the second thing I'd look for does the PT Cruiser have some kind of pressure switch in the fuel system in case of a rollover maybe the switch of the valve is bad

He can do it. Tell him to just be patient (everything is a tight fit in a PT) and remember to disconnect the battery first. No special tools are required. He may have to move a bracket or two for access. It lives on the left side (front) of the motor and easiest to get to from underneath.

Car is jerking and the engine has come on but it has oil and transmission fluid in it

We had an issue with our 2005 PT Cruiser. The check engine light came on and had trouble starting. Once it did start it would buck and sputter. I did some research on the web and found similar problems. From what i found it is the cam shaft sensor. This happened yesterday. We are getting it checked today. I won't go as far as to tell you this is exactly what it is, but it is a good place to start. Hope this helps!

I have a 2002 Pt Cruiser, the heater sometimes works. Could this be a sign that the radiator needs to be flushed? Or thermostat needing replacing.

A couple of things. Simplist is to flush & refill the radiator. Collant level could be low. Mine was doing it mainly when stopped a lights or at idle speeds. If I reved the engine around 2,ooo RPM, it produced heat. Once I flushed and refilled the cooling system, problem went away. Good luck!
