Check the rear compartment lid unlatch relay in the under hood fuse box . The open switch is an input to the BCM - body control module , when pushed the BCM applies B+ voltage to energize the relay sending B+ voltage to lid latch motor opening the trunk . If not the relay the BCM may be at fault . May have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .
Make the FixYa experience better for everyone by voting. It's located under the hood, nestled sight under the firewall, and on top of the exhaust manifold. It looks like the picture below and has four wires extending from its top.
You have a short circuit somewhere. check thoroughly under the hood for an exposed or disconnected cable touching the frame or other metal components which are grounded to the negative terminal of the battery.
Your 3800 Regal should not create any additional work to remove/replace the factory starter...Ask your parts store to show you one...be sure to disconnect one side of the battery prior to any work around the starter...Should be just 3 bolts (plus 2 wire conncections) for the switch out...Hope this helps.
