SOURCE: steering wheel noise

have someone turn the steering wheel will the car is running so you can look to see exactly where the noise is coming from. sounds like a dry steering component.

SOURCE: passat 2002 v6 steering fluid deposit

Oops, sorry about that.....

The power steering fluid reservoir is located just behind the drivers (LHD) headlight, just forward of the washer fluid reservoir.

The reservoir has a green cap on it and a plastic trim panel to conceal the sides, it is circled here:

SOURCE: Whenever I turn my steering wheel left to right it makes a noise

if power steering fluid is bubbly, means that its sucking air somewhere before(sucking side) (or on) power steering pump. that would explain the noise. Check (when cold) fluid level. if level is low, top up before starting the car. had a lot of cars that high preasure hose was leacking fluid on restricting valve. if so, fluid comes out on the end of protecting cover of the hose. (driver side on spark plugs and down the engine). replace hose with original. do not try to make it your self, becouse steering wheel will shake, sinse restracting valve is missing.
But if you press brake pedal, that has nothing to do with it.

Why is my power steering reservoir loosing fluid, what would cause the fluid to be "foamy" on top, and what should I use to fill it with?

spray down pump and hoses with degreaser and wash off. After its dry, use recomended fluid to fill. Start engine and turn steering wheel all the way left, and all the way right a couple of times. This will blead the air from the system. Now shut off and check fluid. Make sure it is full. Now drive the car down the road and make turns, and drive it back and check fluid level. If its still foamy and not leaking fluid, your pump ma be bad.

Power steering leak on 2003 CHEVY impala V6 3.8

When a power steering pump begins to fail, it's best to replace the pump and both pressure and return hoses to this system.
Recommend you replace this as soon as possible because it could eventually cause damage to your steering rack and pinion.

I have boiling/gurgling noise in small front hose of my 2003 Passat. We just flushed system change water pump timing belt and thermostat.

Definately your engine need bleading.Because I don.t know the engine code I.ll give you an ordinary instruction for that.Open the bonnet and find were is the hoses of coolant system going to the heater radiator into dashboard. If they are above the coolant tank you need to open one of them/make sure there is no pressure into the engine coolant system by opening the coolant tank cap/.Than put pressure/air/in the tank to blead the system.if the hosses is low than the tank that means is selfbleading system.Than check for burnt head gasket/CO test for the coolant system.

I replace the power steering pump on my volkswagen passat 2001 and is making kind of squealing

The noise is probably caused from air in the steering system. To bleed the air out of the system, start the engine and turn the steering wheel back and forth slowly, but do not turn it all the way to the steering stops. Continue to do this for several minutes. The air will slowly bleed out of the system. If that doesn't stop the noise, then it could be the belt slipping.

Help me please.... i bought a used toyota 2004 4runner v6 chain drive 4x4 last year (2009) around june... it has 50/50 tread left on Michelin AT or CT tires. the problem is: whenever i am driving...

CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IT COULD BE TOO LOW.OR YOU HAVE INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE.LACK OF LUBRICATION AT STEERING JOINTS.YOUR FRONT END OUT OF ALIGNMENT.YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY POWER STEERING PUMP.OR YOU HAVE A LOT OF AIR IN POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU HAVE TO BLEED AIR OUT OF POWER STEERING PUMP.CHECK POWER STEERING PUMP HOSES.MAKE SURE.NONE ARE LEAKING OUT FLUID.

2004 power steering pump whinning. Changed pump and noise is still present

Ford is notorious for having very noisy pumps. Yes even the replacement pumps. Having some noise in a ford is unfortunately normal.. but I would assume you may have dirty fluid still in the line.. Get the system flushed then see if it goes away. Good luck

P.S dirty or old power steering fluid can cause poor pressure in the power steering system hense the reason to flush the system

I have a high pitched noise which appears to be coming from front right engine compartment (as you are looking at the engine) which sounds kind of like a belt that is squealing. It is intermittent. Just...

Could be several things. WHICH ENGINE?.. 4 cylinder (has three belts, power steering/water pump, alternator & A/C compressor, one tensioner pully A/C compressor), The V6 2.7 (has only one belt, 1 Idler pully and 1 tensioner pully), the V6 3.5 has two belts - A/C/alternator, and power steering - there are two tensioner pullys). Noises can be caused by the belt(s) themselves, pullys, bearings, pully bearings, water pump shaft bearings (or belts/pullys rubbing up against something). Let's not forget that there is also belt(s) behind the Timing Belt cover as well as pullys and bearings associated with the timing system. You could start by removing one accy drive belt at a time (alternator, water pump, compressor, power steering, etc) to see whether or not the noise goes away in each case. If after each case, you discover the noise is still there, it's probably behind the timing belt cover (idler/tensioner pully, water pump shaft bearing, crankshaft bearing, etc.). Good Luck
