99 chevy cavalier theft system light on steady, car wont crank.

I have a 1999 chevy cavalier with the theft system light on steady. the car wont crank at all. all fuses check out ok fuel pump sound when you initially turn key on, and all the idiot lights come on as they should. However, the theft system is staying on instead of going off as it should. direct jump it from yhe starter and it starts and runs for minute then dies from fuel starvation. suspect activated theft system, but all the remedy recommended so far do not work. Any new ideas out there?

#1 remedy - turn key on until light goes off, then turn it off and start. The light is staying steady and not going off
#2 disconnect battery for 30 seconds turn key to on position, reconnect and start. - no.

My 2000 cavalier has done this for 6 months. You take your key out then open your door, wait ten minutes and the system resets itself and the car will start-annoying you bet!!!

My 99 cavalier is having similar problems only my idiot lights stay on after it starts...While trying to diagnos the problem I did learn how to reset the ant theft. once you try to start the car and it won't, the anti theft light should start flaching...leave the key in the on position for at least ten minutes until the anti theft light quits flashing...should start

i've done this too. now my starting gets drained, and had to replace it twice. i have left the door open with doing the ten minute 3 times thing and it get longer each time. this makes my engine timing off and goes through extra tries to get it back to starting and stalling. so i would like it permanently bypassed, out who cares. but its hell on my pockets. i'm a self doer. don't have hundreds of dollars for a dealer.

To reset the system, get in the car and shut the door. Turn the key on to the "Run" position without cranking the engine. Leave the key there for exactly 10 minutes. Turn the key to the off position without removing it and back to "Run" for 10 more minutes.May 1, 2021

My 1999 chevy cavalier antitheft light stays on preventing the car to start, tried leaving on for 30 mins, but still wont start

You'll have to contact the dealer to find out the security code or have them tell you how to disable your cars security system. The only other way to do it would be to disconnect the battery but if you've already tried that then nothing else will work other than have the code.
another idea:
I have a 00 Cavalier with the same theft system. and online solution that works is to stick the cavalier into neutral and then start the car up that way and if i remember correctly is that you cranked it once to turn on the electrical systems not trying to start the car and let it sit a good while and then try to start it up

The 'theft system' light does not turn off with the key in the run position on my 1999 chevy cavalier. car won't start, it won't even crank over. the battery and the starter are brand

try locking your car with the key and unlocking it with the key, leave it for 30 second or so between the locking and unlocking , the car thinks some one has tampered with it

1998 cavalier wont start no spark

If you have no spark try the ignition module, it controls the spark and if you don't have any and the coil is new its the only other option short of wiring or ecu!!

I have a 1997 chevy cavalier.it has good spark and is getting fuel but wont fire up or even sputter.theft light is on and is steady.

Try manually locking the car (with the key), on the Driver's side. Then wait about a minute, for the security system to reset and unlock it (again Driver's side with key).

1999 cavalier won't start

you have to clear the theft system code that was set by disconnecting the wire first , it may not do its "relearn" until you do . You will need a service center with a "tech 2" scanner
