have the alt tested there not very good do you have 12 volts going to the big wire on the alt and with key on you should have it to a small wire going to the regulator to turn it on

Your alternator should power everything when engine is running. Battery is only for start up. Test voltage with a multimeter when engine is running , should be 14V or more . Any less indicates low alternator output.

You may have to run another hot wire from the back of the alternator to the battery direct.
Use 10 or 8 guage wire.

The alternator change is not that difficult. I would take the vehicle to an autoparts store and have them test the alternator output. Check the battery cables and make sure they are clear of corrosion and are tight. A parts store can also test the condition of the battery. Most parts stores will check the alternator output and battery for free. If you visit the autozone.com website, you can also register your vehicle information and have access to an online repair manual that will show the procedures for changing the alternator if it is necessary.
