First off you need to do some testing to see what needs replacing !

  • Windshield Wipers Will Not Park at Proper Position
  • Damaged windshield wiper motor.
  • Damaged windshield wiper control module.
  • Damaged circuitry.
  • GO to Pinpoint Test E .

Wipers won't return to resting pos.when off

If the wiper blades have been taken off the pivot posts, they may not have gone back into the correct position. I would take them off , turn the wipers on and then turn them off. The pivots should then return to their off position. Refit the wiper blades in the correct "stop" position.

My windsheild wipers stop in the up position on the delay setting but park all the way down when turned off. How do I fix this

You will need to diagnose this with a multi meter....on dark green terminal d at the wiper pulse board, with the wipers on any delay position, you should be reading .0005 Amps and 12 Volts and at the same time on the delay position one click below low(the fastest delay speed) you should be reading .0003Amps and 12V on terminal E gray wire, The purple wire (terminal C) should have 12V on high speed only. The yellow wire (terminal B) should have 12V when the key is on and the black wire (terminal A) should always be grounded....check all of that and we should be able to find your problem.
The Amperage should change on terminal E (the gray wire) with each position on the switch but the change will be very small. i.e. the first speed (longest delay) will read .000017 A, the second setting .00004 A and so on. Check that and let me know...(by the way, amps are checked in series with the connector so unplug it, place one probe in the connector and the other in the motor plug terminal. )

My wipers on my 94 ford ranger stop in the up position, it started with only working on high but then that stopped and it started stopping in the up position, I replaced the multi switch and motor still...

Sounds like the switch in the wiper motor has gone bad. You would have to replace the wiper motor to fix this problem. There are contacts inside the wiper motor head, when you turn them off it supplies power until the wipers return to the resting position and it opens the contact and then they stop. I hope you find this useful and helps you solve your issue.

Went on a journey in heavy rain last week. Without warning the wipers stopped for a couple of seconds and then continued working fine. When I finished my journey and turned the wipers off, the wiper blades...

on most cars there is a parking circuit within the motor mechanism which returns the arms to the rest position after the inside wiper switch is turned off. so there is always some power going to the wiper motor. again on most cars the problem you describe is generally a defect in that circuit. however on some cars this circuit is in an external box attached to the wiper motor. so you need to find out if that circuit is contained within the SaaB wiper motor or is external. if there are any dealers left you could call one and ask at their service desk. if it is internal then you are going to need a new wiper motor.

Rear wiper turned to off position continues to draw on battery until dead

wiper motors have a circuit, always 12V on, which returns them to the rest position even after the switch is in OFF position. I would suspect a malfunction in that circuit. it is inside the motor body and not replaceable other than by replacing the whole wiper motor.

I have a '97 Z24 Cavalier that although the windshield wipers work, when turned off the go back to an upright position. When turned on any setting (whether fast or slow) they do stay down in the "resting"...

Sorry but your description doesn't really make sense - the wipers work, you say, but when switched on they remain in the correct parked position...
Presumably when switched off they park vertically.

It is worth noting the single sweep timer and the screenwash (5 wiper sweeps) influences the self parking. The circuit is quite complicated and it is best not to be involved unless necessary and then a circuit diagram would be invaluable.

It is also important the wiper linkage crank is correctly "timed" to the wiper motor for correct parking.

The wiper motor and integrated gearbox is fairly simple to examine and test but the gearbox also contains the self parking switch which can be examined for wear and cleanliness though testing isn't very practical.

I suggest you begin by removing the wiper motor and examining the condition of the self parking switch inside the gearbox. If it is worn or corroded replace the motor. When refitting connect the wiring and switch on the ignition and then briefly switch on the wiper motor and switch off. The motor should continue for a second or two and then stop.
Switch off the ignition.
Position the wiper blades in the proper parked position and then refit the wiper linkage crank to the motor...

The wiper won't return to rest position

there is a parking relay in the wiper motor's electrical system that does not work no longer. That is why it will not sop and rest at the lower end of the windsheild

Dodge caravan 1996 During cold weather wiper malfunction

Hi

Sounds to me like the "parking" contacts inside the wiper motor have broken off / worn.
Needs to remove wiper moter / dismantle to inspect. (On some models you can purchase these contacts.)
