I have a toyota caldina 2000, 1800cc and my speedo, dash everything stops and warning lights flash, car seems to almost die, overdrive lights and engine lights start flashing.

Clean and lubricate the speedo cable. Change the transmission fluid.

its very posible a bad speed sensor or gears on the speedo sensor

You can try taking the car to one of the commercial auto parts stores and the will usually diagnose the problem for free, using their handheld computer, giving you the solution.

It says that your vehicle is low on coolant.Get the coolant level checked.If low has to be changed.

2001 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, 3.4L, 4 door, 2WD, automatic transmission overdrive problem. It's not shifting to overdrive, overdrive button on shifter does not turn light on - on dash. Mileage is 115,xxx.

means it's going out or the transmission oil will need to be changed, check the transmission fluid if it is brown and smells likes onions have the fluid changed and the filter, this may not fix it but you may get lucky, if it's the band or clutch assembly you will have to rebuild transmission.

As you say the tacho/speedo come "back up to normal" after the incident, I assume that they either stop working or become erratic while the dash lights are misbehaving.
If so, this sounds like a dash wiring electrical problem.
The O/D OFF light is lit by the switch on the shifter (switch also inputs to the ECU). The ENGINE light is driven also from the ECU but the SLIP light is driven from the ABS/VSC computer, although these two computers do communicate.
Best plan of attack would be interrogate the ECU for error codes or ask a Toyota dealer to do so. At least you'll have some clue to any problems that the ECU's may have picked up.
Contact me about checking for ECU error codes if you want to attempt it yourself. Although the Caldina has an OBDC2 connector, as I understand it it's not 100% compliant, so you'll need a Toyota compatible reader. Fortunately teh codes are also output via the CHECK ENGINE light.
If there's no problems there, I'd be pulling the instrument cluster and checking for wiring problems. I'm not sure where in the world you are but most ex- JDM vehicles could have modified with timers, speed-cut or fuel-cut devices that either have been poorly installed or are playing up and causing electrical problems.

my overdrive light is flashing due to a shattered speedo cable tip. check your fluid level. you may have to change the tranny filer and redo all the fluid.

I have the same problem with my 95 Toyota T100. My O/D off light started flashing when my speedometer cable broke this week-end. I assume the electronic transmission is using the speed data to manage the overdrive.
Have your speedometer problem fixed and your flashing light will turn off.

You have a dimmer switch for those lights. That would be the next thing to check. Try operating the switch to see if anything happens.
