Blower motor stays on when car is off 1999 mercury mystique

The Mercury Mystique had somewhat of a bad reputation for wiring problems. I guess my question to you is have you had to have the wiring worked on?? If so, I'd guess that it would be pretty possible for a wire to be hooked up wrong at the ignition switch if somebody has been fooling with that. Just a thought... Also, I'm wondering if the fan continues to run until your battery goes dead?? Now, I'm hoping you don't have the blower motor (for the heater and air conditioner) confused with the electric engine cooling fan. It is normal for the engine fan to run for a while after you shut your engine off. But, I'm probably telling you things you already know along that line.

Smelled mild burning, lost antifreeze - engine temp Hot. I looked under car and noticed a serverly frayed Belt - NOT the big surpentine belt - another small belt on the driver's side. 1999 Mercury Mystique...

For the 1999 Mercury Mystique Water Pump Belt on 2.5L V6 Engine:

Probable Causes: Belt: worn out, started slipping. Overheating caused by failure of Belt. Lost antifreeze: caused by failure of belt, not turning Water Pump Pulley, not circulating anitfreeze, which resulted in overheating.

Click on the following free direct Link. It has the Serpentine & Drive Belt Diagrams and Tensioners for your 2.5L Engine.
Scroll down the Page (about 1/3rd down) to Diagram #G99H08189, it shows the specific Water Pump Belt.
Note the Tensioner.
