SOURCE: '97 Grand Marquis needs a new Oxygen Sensor
its simple to do. just unplug the sensor and unscrew it. if its frozen and hard to break loose, then just heat the base the part of exhaust that it goes into.
SOURCE: How to replace Oxygen Sensor for Mer Grand Marquis
it will be easier if you have an O2 socket
Basically you just disconnect the sensor
turn the old one to the left
and remove
However, expect to use a lot of muscle and possibility some heat too
These things get tight
Sometimes you even have to break out the big pipe wrench
If you are really lucky you can remove them with a standard 7/8" wrench but I wouldn't even try it since more often than not you will just strip the head
SOURCE: WHERE IS THE OXYGEN CENSOR
O2 sensors are located in the exhaust manifold near the Catalytic converter.
Some cars have the 02 sensor before the catalytic converter, some behind, and some before and after.
Simply locate the "bung" that contains the O2 sensor, and you will see the sensor connected to wires.
This is the best way to locate them.
