any changes such as grill , doors will alter the panels
if the suspension has been maintained then there are parts that may interchange

Yes, they are interchangeable, as long as both will plug into the coil pack assembly, they should be fine. Coil issues? If you still have issue after new coils, check the ignition control module- igniter. The igniter is what controls the coil circuit when the pcm /ecu signals for a spark.

If you mean the firing order of the 3800 Series II V6 engine, it is 1-6-5-4-3-2. The numbers are usually stamped on the coil packs and care should be taken when running plug wires that the number on the coil pack lead goes the the corresponding cylinder number. Cylinder locations on the engine are as follows: Standing with the hood open on the passenger side of car facing the front of the engine (end where sertentine drive belt is located) The left bank is 2-4-6 front to rear, and the right bank is 1-3-5 front to rear of engine.

Basically the coil pack in the rear of the engine feeds cylinder #4 and there is a a plug wire off of that coil pack also that feeds cylinder #1. The coil that sits toward the front of the engine feeds cylinder #2 and the plug wire coming off that coil pack feeds cylinder #3. Each coil pack has a white plastic connector that can fit either coil but the length of the wires to each coil is different and should be easy to distinguish which coil pack each connects to. -cylinder #1 would be at the front of the engine and cylinder #4 would be at the rear.

No...the 96-97 don't interchange with the 98-00....and even some of the 98 parts (the tranny for instance) don't fit on the 2000.

The coil is on top of the engine and the module on the firewall or suspension strut tower
