That reverse light switch just threads in no adjustments

a simple contact switch

does reverse gear select firmly no slop

are the cable connections to the gearbox to the shift stick sloppy or lazy
no broken engine mounts
if nothing obvious

i would have a look at the back bulbs, holder and earths

2002 Olds Olero /replace ignition switch

remove your radio, there will be 2 bolts to undo, switch will slide into dash, unplug harness turn key to remove cable, if ignition wont turn you may have to take ignition apart to remove cable. reinstall in reverse procedure. will need to relearn new key to be able to start. try to start, leave key in run position, theft/security light will be blinking. leave on for 15 min or light stops blinking, turn off turn back to run without trying to start. leave on for another 15 min. turn off then start

My 97 Mazda mpv van reverse light does not come on when in reverse

Hi Kauhanebk, First thing to do is check the bulbs. If they are both okay check the fuse. After doing that if they still don't work look for broken cables and open circuits. If still no results check the reverse light switch. If it needs replacement, be very observant when removing it as there may be a ball bearing inside the housing to give the extra reach needed for operation. Regards John

it sounds like a shift lock solinoid ....this prevents the car from being shifted out of park when ur foot is not on the brake....u will have to bring this to a repair shop since the faulty part is located inside the paneling where ur shifter handle is

I went to a auto shop to have them check on my reverse lights because both of the lights are not working. The auto shop wanted $850 for this. This is what they said... "reverse lights- testing...

There should be a Neutral safety switch, which also acts as a back-up light switch. It should be located close to where linkages attach to transmission, and is threaded into side of transmission. Not very expensive and about 10-15 min to change .motor1258_24.jpg

How to replace brake light bulb?

If similar to 2002 MPV, you detach the whole side light module, then pop out the bulb-socket, then you can replace the bulb. You need a philips screwdriver, medium size. Open the back hatch. Remove the two screws on the inside edge of the light-assembly. Now pull the whole assembly *sideways* not back - it is held by two detent-pins that face out. You can swing it out a bit and then carefully lever it at top or bottom edge. Lower the assembly face-down, you can see three bulb-sockets. They can be turned a part-turn, I think counter-clockwise, then they pop out. Replace bulb(s), re-insert socket, push assembly back onto pins, replace screws. Just did this for brake/tail light 10 minutes ago.

Brake Lights not working

You did not mention if you checked the fuse or not.

You may want to get a test light and see if you have power to the switch and if it is working properly.

Car jumping when brake is applied

I'm pretty sure that your front rotors are warped. Is tis problem only happening when you apply the brakes? If it is, replace the front pads and get new rotors. Be sure when you install the front tires back on, torque the wheels to 90 lbs.
