Sometimes an intermittent problem is hard to replicate when at the dealer, or any shop as far as that goes, and if they replace parts on a "hunch" or a guess, and they were wrong, what would your reaction be to a $300-$400 bill, and problem wasn't fixed? Some of these electric fuel pumps will do just that, work fine if they are cool & quit when they get hot, so they throw a fuel pressure gauge on it, and it reads good, and unless they run the car all day, wait for it to quit, then check pressure, they can't confirm they're "hunch" or guess. So it quits on you, gets towed into them, they test fuel pressure, pump is cool again by the time it gets there, and pressure reads fine. Just the same as when you sit for a while & it starts back up & runs again. I'd carry a can of WD-40 with me, and when it quits, pull air intake of front of throttle body, open up the plate & spray WD-40 into throttle body opening for a second or 2 , then try to start it. If it kicks over and runs for a second or two, I'd change fuel pump. Only real way to confirm it would be to borrow, or buy a fuel pressure gauge & stick it on there when car quits & test pressure then. You'll probably find you can go further with a full tank, or on a cool day, as pump would run a little cooler thus not quit as soon, or maybe not at all. Parking in the shade will probably help too.You may notice it happening more on a hot, sunny day.
SOURCE: Nissan maxima 05 service engine light is on. How
There are many emission sensors in the car that will make the engine light come ON. Not to mention the big list of trouble codes for the engine light.
Best way to find out what's going on engine light is to have an auto-parts store hook up a engine code reader and tell you what the code means and the problem. Most auto-part store will do this for free.
