Engine turns over not firing after oil pressure low engine stop engine warning.

(background purchased in 2013, had check engine light on dealer said it was o2 sensor and gave us a promissory work order to have it fixed. Dealer only cleared codes and light came back on. Car was always slow, labored to start like a low battery, however battery showed proper voltage. Dealer refused to make good on promise said it was a battery problem and we needed to replace the battery. fast forward to 2016 still using the same battery ac stopped working), six months later Low oil stop engine light came on. Husband stopped checked oil and it was in proper operating range so he added more. Engine was hard to start but eventually did. Drove home 1 mile and parked it tried to start it and again hard start, ran for less than a minute and turned it off. Checked oil again tried to start engine and only got a quiet spinning noise. Changed starter, now engine sounds like it is turning over but now sounds like only 1 or 2 cylinders make an attempt to fire two firing noises back to back then no more firing just the engine spinning. obd reader shows no codes. Other interesting things to note. can hear what i believe to be the fuel pump running when key is turned half way. When changing the starter we removed the oil filter without draining the oil. Very little oil came out.

2013 ford explorer low engine oil pressure warning light comes on when I come to a stop or slow down

Check your oil level.

Wear in your engine could cause this, a worn oil pump, leaking seal, worn main bearings or camshaft bearings.

A weak oil pressure sending unit can also be an issue.

As the clearance in your engine increases with wear, the oil pressure will gradually decrease after a certain amount of wear.

You can increase your idle a bit.

You can also change the weight of your oil up from 5w30 to 10w30 or something similar and that will increase the pressure a minimal amount.

I have a engine failure hazard with stop and oil can being displayed what does this mean

Not good. It is low oil PRESSURE, not low oil LEVEL, although low oil can cause low pressure if the pump is scavenging. When was the last time the oil filter was changed?

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate anytime the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. When the engine is running, the light also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:
If the oil pressure light does not work, perform the following:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp lights, make sure the oil pressure switch is properly grounded in the cylinder block, and if so replace the oil pressure switch. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.
To diagnose an oil pressure light that stays on, perform the following:
  1. Check the engine oil level and top off as necessary. If the engine was 2 or more quarts low on oil, test start the engine after topping off the oil level and recheck the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on, stop the engine immediately and go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the wire at the sending unit, then turn the ignition switch to theON position. If the light remains on, check the wire from the sending unit to the gauge for being shorted to ground and repair as necessary. If the light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF and go to the next step.
  3. Replace the oil pressure sending switch with a known good switch.
  4. Start the engine and check the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on with the engine running, stop the engine immediately to avoid severe engine damage until the cause of the problem can be determined.

WARNING
If the oil pressure light remains on while the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. Do not operate the engine until the cause of the problem can be determined. Operating an engine with low oil pressure will cause severe internal damage.

Possible causes for an oil pressure light to stay on are:

Pinched or grounded sensor wireDefective oil pressure sending unitRestricted or severely leaking oil filterExcessive internal engine bearing clearance.Insufficient or severely contaminated engine oilBlocked oil pump pickup screen or severely worn oil pump

Oil warning light flashing mean?

Normally, if you get a oil warning light signal (flashing) could be a few things related to it. Number one, you are low on oil. Check your oil level and make sure it is at full level. Number two, is possibly oil filter is dirty, ( time for service, oil change) or problem with oil pump or oil pump pressure. BUT I would first start with checking oil level and then maybe a oil change.

2007 chevy uplander ls minivan, low oil pressure warning light and bell comes on and off after 20 minutes of driving

Since you do not state whether you checked the oil and what the condition and level it was, that is important to know for advise to be given.

But unfortunantly, what you describe is some of the indications of a blown head gasket. Did you have white smoke coming out of the exhaust? Is there any indication of water on your dipstick? Is there a oily slim on the top of your antifreeze in the radiator overflow?

2011 Ford Edge was purchased brand new one month ago. while driving today the "low oil engine pressure" alarm activated. oil was subsequently checked and is at proper level. Engine starts,...

I had the same problem after 5 months of purchasing a 2011 Edge. The Oil Engine Pressure light comes on and stays on after driving 10 minutes and stopping for gas- it turns off shortly after I start driving again. I had a 2007 Edge as well and never had this problem. I just took the 2011 Edge back to the dealer. They could not duplicate the problem and instead reset all computer settings. The next day the same Oil Engine Pressure light came back on. Anyone out there with any suggestions?
