What rods to disconnect when replacing the left rear door handle on a 2001 mercury villager

I replaced the door handle on my villager, but I think I forgot to hook the rod/cable that releases the secondary portion of the door latch when opening it from the outside. In turn I can't open the door from the outside or inside.
