Is it safe to say that my CV axel is bad?

I have a 2002 Mercury Mountianeer, i just bought it from a private person with the expectation of fixing it up. i was told that the CV axel was bad, when i turn the wheel all the way the tires skip and you hear and feel a pop or grinding like noise. Can I safely assume it is the CV axel and go ahead and buy the part and replace it?

Probably, but it would be better to disassemble first and check for other issues, such as ball joint, or hub bearing.

No, sounds like the transfer case is shot. Your is an all time all wheel drive. It has a clutch pack in the T case. They go bad. They will cause the tire to skip and jump, not the CV axle. Pricey fix and no fun to remove. You can remove the front drive shaft to get rid of the skipping until you can replace it.

How do i fix cv axels on a 2002 hyundai accent

It's not worth it to fix the axel, it is wise to replace the axels
by jacking up the car secure the car with jack stands, then remove the wheels, the big center nut of the axel and the lower bolts on the ball joint, then pry the lower control arm down and pull the hubb aside. Now u could remove the axel easily, if stuck take a hammer and tap it lightly, remove it, replace with the new but make sure both ends r lubed with grease.

When you turn left or right you get a noise like the cv joint is bad

Have an alignment shop look over you car and give you an estimate for repairs. Sounds like you are correct about the bad CV joint and it could fail causing an accident. Be safe!

Steering

Since this is front wheel drive I have to say yes. You have a bad CV joint. That clicking sound is typically a bad CV joint or one that was improperly installed. Take it back to mechanic that did the work and make him do it correctly.

Steering wheel violently shakes.

that is usually caused by bad engine mount this condition usually changes the distance of the cv joint and the differential which cause the cv joint to shake. also check your ball joints.

The part that the thermostat housing bolts to is leaking around the top. what is this part and can i replace it. it's a 2002 2w 6cyl mercury mountianeer.

Thermostats usually connect to another hose so you should be able to replace it. Just go to autoaone they should have whatever you need.

Subaru cv axle noise?

Do you know if this car has ever been recked? if your going thru that many axels makes me think something is not running true, a wheel bearing would not make a cv joint in a axel go bad. Did you replace the axels? or did you have them done at a shop, and did you see the old axels after they were replaced. You got bigger problems than a wheel bearing. From what i can gather some thing is bent or your getting bunch of bad axels witch i dought.
