Trying to get the inside metal panel off the door to look at the window motor...not sure how to get the metal panel off.

Instructions

• Check the power window fuse. Remove the kick panel located under the steering column to expose the fuse panel. Use the illustration on the kick panel to locate the power window fuse, remove it and inspect the filament. Replace if the filament is broken.
• 2Open the hood and use a wrench to loosen the negative battery terminal. Remove the negative battery terminal and set it aside.
  
• 3.
  Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the speaker cover and speaker on the appropriate door. It is not necessary to remove the speaker from its wires.
  
• 4Unscrew the armrest with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the armrest.
  
• 5Locate the door trim panel running along top of the interior of the door; where the door meets the bottom of the window. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the retaining screws of the door trim panel. Grip the panel firmly and remove it by pulling upward.
  
• 6Remove the door panel with your hands. The outer border of the door panel is connected with a series of plastic slips. Carefully unseat the clips to remove the door panel. Work the speaker through the speaker hole in the door panel.
  
• 7Locate the window bracket. It is a combination of metal arms holding the window glass in place. The arms form an 'X' shape with the upper right arm attached to the power window motor.
  
• 8Use your hand to disconnect the power window motor relay. Make sure there are no breaks in the wires and the fuses inside the relay are intact. If the relay is broken or does not connect properly with the power window motor it must be replaced.
  
• 9Inspect the swing bolts on the window mounting bracket. There should be a visible amount of grease to lubricate the joints. If the swing bolt joints are dry they may be stuck. Use all-purpose automotive grease to lubricate the locked swing bolt joints.
  
• 10Hold the glass in place and use the approapriate socket wrench to remove the regulator. The regulator is the metal arm holding the bottom of the window glass in place. It is attached to the bottom-most 'X' shaped arms. Remove the regulator.
  
• 11Use a pencil to mark the location of the gear on the power window motor. Remove the power window motor mounting bolts and remove the motor from the door. Inspect the gear on the motor for grease and lubricate if necessary. If the motor does not work after greasing it must be replaced.
  
• 12Replace door panel, door panel trim, armrest, speaker and speaker cover. Replace the negative battery terminal and lower the hood.
  

Sounds like you need to replace the window regulator inside the door. It is the scissor like apparatus that the window rides on. If the power window motor is weak it also might need replaced. I would first take the door panel off and inspect it. Then I would spray and lubricate all the moving parts to make sure they aren't binding up. Operate the window with the panel off and look for smooth operation. The plastic bushings that ride in the metal track of the window regulator break or wear flat on one side. Through my experience they make it so you can't just replace the bushings. A window regulator and motor will cost you anywhere between $175 and $300 dollars new depending on where you go.

the most common cause of this is the window motor inside the door is defective, pull the door panel and replace the lift motor in the bottom of the door, you will need to drill out the three dimples in the sheet metal over the motor to access the bolts that hold the motor to the window regulator

YOUR OLD MOTOR SHOULD HAVE RIVITS HOLDING THE UNIT TO THE DOOR. YOU MUST DRILL OUT THE RIVITS JUST TO THE MOTOR AND REMOVE. IF THE NEW MOTOR DID NOT COME WITH BOLTS YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY THEMFROM ANY HARDWARE STORE.SHOULD BE 1/4-20S OR 5/16-20 BOLTS JUST LONG ENOUGH TO LEAVE ROOM FOR THE NUTSTO LONG CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS, ALSO BUY LOCK NUTS WITH NYLON LOCKS SO THEY WON'T VIBRATE LOOSE. GETTING THE DOOR PANEL OFF SHOULD BE EASY, REMOVE HANDLES AND SCREWS AROUND DOOR POCKET CHECK CAREFULLY FOR HIDDEN SCREWS
GENTLY PRY THE DOOR PANEL FROM BETWEEN THE METAL DOOR AND THE PANEL, SHOULD BE 6-8 PLASTIC DOOR GROMMETS HOLDING THE PANEL AFTER ALL ARE LOOSE GENTLY PULL THE PANEL OUT AT THE BOTTOM AND RAISE THE PANEL NU TO RELEASE IT FROM THE TOP WINDOW AREA. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNPLUG THE WINDOW MOTOR CONTROLS AT THIS POINT AND SET PANEL OFF TO SIDE AND START WITH THE RIVITS. WHEN YOU GET THIS FAR THE WINDOW SHOULD BE IN THE UP POSISTION EITHER SUPPORT THE WINDOW FROM INSID THE DOOR AREA WITH A PIECE OF WOOD OR SOMETHING SO IT WON'T FALL AND BREAK. I DAVE USED DUCT TAPE FOR THIS AND WORK WELL ALSO BUT USE ENOUGH TO TAPE FROM THE OUTSIDE TO THE INSIDE ACROSS THE TOP OF THE DOOR

lower window motor to middle, remove all door panel screws, once removed u will see a metal holder that will hold window, then u will see two or three holes for bolts , re install the bolts, if u dont see them check bottom of door area, there is a small section of door panel to manuever , but you can re install the bolts, check the window/door seal if it is hard spray with lubricant to prevent pressure against the motor.put door panel back , your back in business

How do you remove door panels and replace window regulator on an Intrigue? Answer : For a 2002 Intrigue – Front Passenger I didn’t disconnect battery. You use window switch later to align window tabs to regulator frame – with ignition off power locks work, nothing is exposed.
1. Remove visible screw under armrest, pop out finger inset oval panel, remove exposed 2nd screw. 2. Pop off door handle trim – lock button assembly slide thru its hole in door panel. 3. Pop off window switch trim/holder – slide thru its hole in door panel. 4. Remove 2 slot screws under bottom of door.
5. I used a smooth metal letter opener (or old fork) to pry panel from door at each point plastic fasteners insert into metal. Start prying a little, see three on bottom perimeter two inches from edge. Three on door open edge and three on door hinge edge. Slow and easy = whole panel will pop off. A metal compression spring fastener connects at top door hinge edge trim – pry out. Be sure door lock and window switch remain inside. Clean all surfaces of door panel and lay on back seat.
6. With panel off you see clear plastic moisture sheet stuck to door with black rubbery paste - peel it from door for reattachment. You now see mechanism and fastener points. Lay out replacement window regulator and motor on mat by door to help you recognize fastening points, etc.
7. Carefully pull glass all way up and hold in place with two pieces duck tape two feet long with ¼# removal tabovers. Put a foot on outside glass and loop over door frame a foot to inside glass – with room to later redo when you twice lower and raise a foot to access bolts removing/attaching it to regulator bar.
8. Remove 3 bolts holding motor to door. 9. Remove upper 2 bolts and lower 2 bolts holding regulator frame to door.
10. Lower window to expose thru panel cutout area two bolts holding glass tabs to regulator, retape securely. Remove bolts, raise window, retape securely by looping over door frame.
11. Window regulator and motor assembly comes out as unit. Unplug window switch tab to release from motor. BEFORE reassembly clean the inside of the door, put in a little Borax for bugs, etc.
12. Reassemble by starting three motor bolts, fitting regulator assembly in door cavity. Replug window switch, motor can be placed in thru oval slots, leave all bolts loose. Replace two upper and two lower regulator bracket bolts, leave loose.
13. Turn on ignition, use window switch to lower window glass regulator tab bracket until accessible thru panel cutout. Turn off ignition, manually lower glass until tabs align with regulator bracket bolt holes and tighten these bolts. Take tape off, turn on ignition, raise window to top.
14. Tighten three motor bolts and four regulator bracket bolts, make sure alignment is OK. Remove your tape residue - clean goo from both glass sides with Goof Off. THEN raise and lower several times to assure all fits and works like new.
15. Reinstall clear plastic sheet, aligning any fastener holes and rubbing down perimeter with a cloth .
16. Align door panel, assure door lock and window switch are pulled thru. Visually align each tab on door opening side and pop them in one at a time. Continue on bottom – make sure you see them align or they will break. Finish on door hinge side and with metal fastener at top. IF you break a fastener, take one from small bag you bought from Pep boys - otherwise take bag back for refund…
17. Reinstall 2 armrest screws and 2 bottom panel screws, then pop in door lock, trim piece and window switch.
Clean the window inside and out with glass cleaner/polish/raineze so it will slide easily and your done. You can’t do anything about the motors going out. You can avoid regulator tab breaks by making sure the window is raised BEFORE closing those big doors – down is the weak moment!! I work slow and clean as I go, the job took two hours. I highly recommend partsgeek.com – saved a bundle over dealer and they shipped everything in several days – as ordered!

1. To take off the door panel. You will find 3 screws. One in the armrest, one behind a plastic cover near the sideview mirror, and a torx screw underneath the door handle - just pry it up like you're opening the door and unscrew.
2. Use your long flathead screwdriver or other similar tool to carefully pry the plastic panel away from the door frame. Careful you don't break it. There are a bunch of plastic clips that attach it - you will break some of these so don't freak out. Worst case you can always order some replacements for cheap.
3. Now disconnect everything attached to the panel: power window cable, mirror cable, and door and lock controls. Once you get all the cables disconnected, look for the tiny plastic clasps over the cover of the metal rods for the door and lock mechanisms. Gently push up and turn the plastic rings slightly to the side and the rods should pull straight up.
4. Remove the speaker (4 screws and a connector plug).
5. Remove the vapor barrier. This is just a giant black plastic cover that sits between the door and the plastic panel. Ease it off and try to keep all the black adhesive attached so you can reuse it to reattach it later. For me this worked better if I pulled fairly hard.
6. Pull out the interior rubber seal/guard that sits in the bottom window groove - just pry it up and pull it out. Leave the one on the outside of the car alone. You may have a piece of foam at each end like I did - if so, make sure you keep them.
7. Look inside the hole to find the regulator. Probably easier to see if the window is down at this point. Notice the two nobs from the window that attach to the regulator, there is a metal clip holding it to the plastic receiver. Pull out the pin on both sides.
8. Carefully dislodge the window from the plastic nobs. Once you do this, nothing will be holding the window.You can hold up the window with some masking tape.Cut a piece about 6inches long.Stick one end of tape to window then go over window frame and place other side of tape on other side of window
9. With the window decoupled from the regulator, it's time to maneuver it out. With it inside the door, turn it almost upside down so the bottom of the window comes out the top first. Otherwise you won't be able to remove it from the door. Be careful - you don't want to break it!
10. Disconnect the plug attaching the power/controls to the window motor.
11. Remove the 4 screws holding the regulator onto the door. (The upper left one should just be loosened so it will hang-in-place). Do the same for the motor (3 screws).
12. Now dislodge the entire regulator/motor assembly from the screw holes and tilt it sideways inside the door. Slowly maneuver it to the hole below the speaker and pull the assembly out.
13. Remove the 3 screws on the motor connecting it to the regulator.
14. Line up the new regulator the same way the old one was connected.It should align perfectly with no problem.
15. Install everything in the reverse order.

When reattaching the plastic panel, it will work better if you take out all the plastic clasps that are stuck in the metal part of the door and insert them in their proper place in the plastic panel. That way you can bang the panel onto the door and they will lock in place in the holes of the door frame.
Once you get the new motor/regulator assembly back in, you can grab your door panel, hold it nearby, connect the power cables and test it before putting the window back in and reconnecting everything. The window should go up/down with no problem.

The door panel is held on to the sheet metal door frame by plastic push pins that fit inside the door panel (where you can't see them). Use either a flat head screwdriver, or probably a pocket knife would work best, and slowly work your way around the door panel prying the panel and plastic push pins away from the sheet metal. There will be most likely a couple of regular screws in the middle of door but will be much easier to notice where when you have the those pins pushed out. Once you have the panel off your window motor sits inside your door frame and is bolted on (3 bolts if I remember correctly) and attaches right on your window lift assembly. PS If you break a few of the plastic push pins don't fret because Autozone sell packs of them to replace. Hope this helps, let me know how it goes and if you need some more help. Good luck!
