My 1994 Toyota Camry V6, 3.0 would not accelerate,shut down, restarted every time. There was a check engine light at the time,but by the time I had car towed,was gone, no history of code.

No The ECU does not shut it down, More than likely you have a bad connection or a bad sensor such as you crank position sensor, You have an OBD I, get your codes read or find out how to read the flashes from the check engine light. The codes will narrow down your problem for you.

Check for spark. Start at the coil, spark at the plug, Could be the coil or crank position sensor. Check codes.

Sounds like a timing chain , worst case, Would you say it's turning over almost too freely?? Look under your cap, and turn motor over, the rotor shouldn't turn if the timing chain is gone, but may turn if it jumped it's timing. Then you'll have to have a look under the timing cover . let me know if this helps

If the car is a V-6 model that plug is not used. The system is OBD-ll which would require a code reader.
My first guess would be the throttle position sensor.
When the throttle is opened the position sensor tells the computer to open the injectors.

check your ground ******** your motor to the frame

I'd go for a free code scan first at one of the major auto parts stores, then you have an idea at least where to concentrate your efforts. Saves money in the long run, and if you prefer, write them down, and get back to us for some help.

check the fuel filter and when was the last time you had a tranny service done and a tune up also check the drivebelt
