After installing distributor a camshaft offset check must be performed.this requires a scan tool.start engine with scan tool attached to diagnostic connector under dash,go to cam offset,it should show a value of 0 to -2 or +2.to adjust cam offset shut off engine, loosen dist. hold-down bolt, which should be 13mm bolt head.move dist slightly, start engine and rev to 1200 rpm and check scan tool to see updated cam offset value

Anytime you remove the distributor, when you put it back in it dosent go right on #1, it will be droped in just a tad before #1. Just pick it up and move it back a tooth.

Firing order 96 chevy cheyenne and how do you tell which is number one on distributor? Thanks :)

I've uploaded a diagram that gives you the firing order for the 96 Chevy Cheyenne. The best way to find out which is number one in the firing order is to following the spark plug on the engine block back to the distributor cap. Number 1 is on the right side, closest to the front of the engine. Best of luck!

1996 chevy cavalier and 2001 chevy cavalier fuel pump interchageable

In the book a 96 model only fits 96-98 cars.
But the actual pump may be the same. You get an assembly including float and lines when you buy a new part.
You may be able to look at a new assembly for each year and tell if the actual pumps are the same style.

1996 chevy c1500 5.7. i replaced the lower intake gasket. now with it all put back together it wont start. i took the distributor out and set the motor to TDC and set the distributor to the #1 cylinder....

You need to pull the distributor back out, put motor to TDC
now you say its always a tooth off...the timing chain may be alittle worn..so when you are trying to put the distribor back in ...put a socket or something... to move the crankshaft.....move it back and forth untill the distributor falls in....AT the number one plug on cap....
Hope this helps you out ??

Took a 305 out of my truck took it apart put it in my 1994 chevy subburban with all 350 parts runs good at idle but feels like timming is off on exselleration wat did i do wrong

Recheck the distributor. #1 and #8 on the distributor should be parallel with the fire wall. If they are not remove the distributor and use a long flat screwdriver and insert it in the hole and the the oil pump. do this untill you get the distributor to sit on the engine and the plugs are in the right position. Once you get this done you can time the engine with a timing light. Also if you swapped heads, you may need to do a valve adjustment. Let me know

Need the diagram to a 95 chevy suburban 5.7 350 motor on how to put the spark plug wires fron the block to the distributor in order

there should be numbers on the top of the distributor and chevy numbers there v8s like this number one is drivers front plug 2 is pass. front plug 3 is drivers side second plug back 4 is pass side second plug back 5 is drivers third back 6 is pass third back 7 is drivers fourth back 8 is pass. fourth back firing order is 18436572 thats the order the distributer hits the wires incase there are no numbers you can put the engine at top dead center just pull the number one plug and turn the engine by hand at the crank i thing its a 7/8ths bolt in the center always turn right (left takes out the bolt) put your finger on the plug hole when you fill air being pushed out then grab a long flat head screwdriver stick it in the hole and slowly turn the engine till the screwdriver is at its highest point then pull the dist. cap off and see were the rotor is pointing that is number one the next one is 8 then and so on i dont remember what way the dist. turns so you can see by turning the engine a little more the dist. will turn with it. hope this helps

2000 chevy blazer won't start after changing fuel filter

if it does not start after you check your distributor cap that means you took the car out of timing, when you put the distributor cap back on you did not put it is the correct position, now you need a mechanic to get the timing of the engine

96 chevy cheyenne V6 4.3 liter how do i put back the distributor back in

remove the number one spark plug, get some one to hold there finger over plug hole till it blows your finger off the plug hole, bumping the starter slowly till it blows off, stop there to see if number one piston is all the way up top dead center, drop in distrubutor with rotor pointing at number one on the cap , after its in ,seated, look to insure the rotor is pinting to number one on distributor cap, that should crank there till you can get a timing lihgght on it, hope this helps you ,thanks robert b.

Found TDC but rotor not on Cylinder #1?

when you bring the piston to TDC on the compression stroke
slide the distributor in and point the rotor towards the number one cylinder once you get it all back together but dont tighten the distributor down tight because you still have to adjust timing
