If you take your car to smog check station and they talk about drive cycle, that means you need to drive you car on the street at speed of 25 to 35 mph then take it to the freeway and accelerate to get the speed of the rest cars and drive you car at 55 to 65 mph then take it down to the street again and drive a little more the turn it off, this is what the mechanics call drive cycle after this the car if everything is right I mean if there is no any damaged sensor the onboard computer get all the info from the sensors and is ready to the test

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima I need to know what exact Guide lines to follow to get a completed drive cycle

to get a completed drive cycle means what? to clear and DTC error , after the cure??
or need all monitors run out to do smog test.
tell why first. so we can be on the same page, as you..
as in what's up doc?
the rules or how many cycles to allow a DTC error set
and to reset are not the same and varies by the error.code.
and for the smog test monitors , more rules
see, it is not simple and the service manual in facts names them all.
some DTC error can take 30 driving cycles to reset.
see? so we use a scan tool to reset them or pull the Neg lug of the battery or we pull the PCM fuse to reset it fast.(ask)

Pre smog test rules:
a PURE OBD2 QUESTION, IS THIS CAR USA CAR.
OUR OBD2 HAS ITS OWN RULES FOR MONITOR COMPLETION.
drive it fast and slow for say 2 days and its down.
do no have full fuel tank 1/2 to 3/4/ is best, for EVAP monitor to run and complete., EVAP is the slow monitor.
use a scan tool to see if errors pop and if one monit

My 05 ford focus Zx3 2.0L I went to smog for twice still don't passed the smog test the reader said cat is not ready evap is not ready 2 air is not ready what I have to do

Did you disconnect the battery recently? Or have the car worked on to correct a check engine light problem? And they reset the codes?

When this happens (loss of all power or code reset), the computer will run all its tests on all systems, and set a 'ready' condition when the tests are passed. Some tests require multiple 'drive cycles' or specific conditions (less than full tank of gas but more than 1/4 tank) to complete the test. Until all (or a specific number - some non-critical tests may be exempted) tests are 'ready', the car will not be passed. The assumption being that until a test is successfully completed, the computer may discover a problem with a system, one that would fail the smog test.

If you're confident that all problems have been fixed, you need to run through enough drive cycles so the computer can complete all required tests. Most ODBII code readers can also read the readiness of the systems. And most parts stores will read your codes for you (and system status) or let you borrow a reader.

What might cause codes p0325 , p0304 to turn my check engine light on during smog test on my1998 Nissan Altima 2.4L No kicking No noise except the drive belt which just started after smog test

This is common in the Nissan's could be the cam and crank sensor these go at around 70000 to 120000 should do both at once to be safe. that will fail an emissions test for sure. hope this helps

2001 chevrolet tahoe secondary air system not working cant pass smog all I did was replace battery before getting it smog

Disconnecting the battery resets the PCM - engine computer ,an the emission monitors . A drive cycle has to be done to get the monitors to run an hopefully set. That's all you need to do is drive it for few days of different driving conditions - city , highway ,from cold start . google GM drive cycle . OBD Monitor Not Ready

What is the drive cycle for a 1998 Aurora, Battery was disconnected and need to reset sensors. Will not pass or fail smog test. Was told that i needed to do a Drive Cycle to reset the sensors?

This means you must drive the car long enough for all of the self-tests to run. Depending on the test it could be a single start and run to many cycles and many miles. Usually after about 50 miles of driving you have completed most tests.
I'm not sure where you are located, but in Ohio you can ask and have the car run on the dynamometer and compete your smog test this way.

2000 Saturn SL2 fails smog due to failure of OBD Self test

Some vehicles require very specific drive cycles (called "drive traces" if you perform them on a road simulator or dyno) to activate certain self-checks like the catalyst and EVAP monitors. As a general rule, doing some stop-and-go driving around town at speeds up to about 30 mph followed by five to seven minutes of steady 55 mph highway speed driving will usually set most or all of the monitors. Consequently, if you're checking an OBD II system and discover that one or more of the monitors have not run, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle to set the remaining monitors.

You should talk to a good emission tec, if this is not throwing a code, it is hard to say if that one of the components could be bad. O2,pump,convert, HeO2, every part of the emission system.

With a 1000 miles, and doing what is says above just before the test, and ending driving at the test
should be plenty. If it is not, you will have to have each emission part checked, or when the computer
is plugged in it might show a code that did not trip dash light.
