try the 10a fuse for the light inside,the symbol on the fuse panel is a light with a line on the top, it controls alarm and windows too

F39 (15A) = Hazard warning lamps

For 2002 VW Passat the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.

sounds like the rear door sensor is kaput.all doors need to be shut before alarm will stabilise/you can leave the car open as if you dont have the key(with the correct code)the car is dead/immobilised.not even hot wiring will start car....

My car, 2000VWPassat, is doing exactly the same thing as of Wednesday April 7, 2010. The dealer has been looking at it for 6 hours and they said they have absolutely no clue what is happening. They are elevating it to an "engineer".

Usually on the passat, if the immobiliser is on, there is a yellow key symbol flashing on the clocks as you try and start it. Do the doors unlock with the remote key? If no flashing light and the key fob working, i would be looking at possibly starter relay. This is either located under the fuse box or under a plastic cover near the windscreen under the bonnet.
