Rob,as its 20 years old have a good look at harness ground connections. Don't just eyeball them, loosen the bolt, swing the tag to and fro to ensure rust free fitting. Retighten. Check the heavy ground connection on the battery and any engine to frame grounding straps / cables. At this age a good many weird goings on are corroded harness multi connectors and terminals. If any connectors look corroded spray WD or similar on them. Same answer as previous. Fuse or speed sensor but if you can, find the speed sensor and see if the harness connections are actually there and you haven't got a wire pulled off by a bit of road debris.

check the od switch to make sure its working then check the grey conector to the tranny under the car if it looses its conection your car will loose 3 4 5 also check your computer on the passenger side and make sure its fully conected if the clip comes loose the tranny is the first to stop working
