SOURCE: ac vent problem

the vacuum canister is located under the battery tray on this model truck, however the most common problem are the vacuum lines that run around the battery box. usually the battry will leak acid at some point in time and create holes in the small hard plastic lines. i would remove the battery and check the vacuum lines first.

1986 Chevy Nova - the defroster/heater vents stopped working. Any ideas? Before they found the found the fuel filter, they messed with the air filter. Could that be the problem?

If the air vent mode doors are vacuum operated, (though some are cable operated), they could have disconnected a vacuum line from engine. A vacuum diagram sticker should be located under the hood. The a/c hose will be listed as (HVAC hose).

What would cause there to be no air to be coming out the front panel on a 99 Ford F-150?

If your mode controller works for other options but not for front vents, the likely problem is a failure of the door actucator or linkage. If the mode seems to be stuck in defrost mode, the likely problem is a vacuum leak. The mode control runs on vacuum supplied from the engine intake manifold througn a thin plastic line. The mode switch puts the vacuum to different doors in the heater box to redirect the airflow. Each door is operated by a vacuum actuator. If the supply hose or actuator diaphragm leaks, that door will not operate. If the supply line from the engine or the switch itself leaks, none of the doors will operate and the mode defaults to defrost.

My A\C stop blowing out the A/C vents but blows on high and low throw the defrost vent

If air not blowing out any other vents in any other modes. If it continues blowing out of the defrost vent , suspect a broken vacuum hose between the engine and firewall where it goes to the heater controls. Most systems that use vacuum motors to move the mode doors around are spring-loaded to go to defrost mode when there is a failure. That insures that even though your feet might freeze in winter, you will have a clear windshield. There is only one vacuum hose and check valve so there is nothing to mix up under the hood.

Besides that vacuum supply, it is also possible to have a defective vacuum motor under the dash. The clue to finding that is that some functions will change but some things will work improperly. It's when nothing changes at all when you switch modes that the vacuum supply hose should be suspect.-------
--------------- Your vent controller is not working. Is the air coming out the defrost vents? If yes, this is the default when there is no vacuum to the switch. In this case, check the small plastic vacuum line that is connected to the engine intake manifold and going into the firewall. Make sure this line is connected to the manifold and the hose is not cracked. If this is good, go inside the car and see if you can trace that line to the control switch. If the line is good to the switch, see if you can pull the vacuum connector from the switch for troubleshooting. with the engine on, check for vacuum on the line from the engine with your finger. If the vacuum is there, your switch is probably leaking and needs to be replace.------------ This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

2005 Astro Van AC only blowes through windshield defrost vent

The mode doors in the dash are powered by engine vacuum, if vacuum is missing the default setting is the defrost vent. Look under the hood near the firewall for a disconnected vacuum line.

2007 Suburban LT .....I turn air/heat on all options but air will not come out front vents. It only comes out foot vents and/or defrost vents for driver./passenger front windows.

Need to look under hood for a vacume line going to your fire wall. your vents are vacuum assisted and i have had this hose dry rot from the engine heat causing my vents not to work correctly. the hose is normaly about a half inch in diameter and is towards the middle of the enigine compartment.

A/c and heater air blows only in windshield vent

That means you lost your engine vacuum source and defroster mode is the default position. Check for the vac. line coming off engine to the firewall under hood if that vac line isn't damaged or leaking, check under dash allthe way up to the vacuum selector switch for the HVAC if you have good engine vac at siwcth around 17-18 inches of vacuum. Then it must be a faulty switch assembly.

The air cond. only blows out from the defroster vents. the heater is the same way. its on a chrysler lebaron, 1995. was told it was a relay, but don''t Know where it is located.

Its more likely the blower door actuator which directs air from defrost to vent to floor. This is vacuum driven and a leak in the vacuum lines (located under the hood beginning at the firewall) will prevent the the door from directing air where you select. Look under the hood for a vacuum leak. Best ot test it with the AC or Heat on high.

Stuck on defrost

Check for vacuum lines under the hood that are loose, off, or cracked. With the engine running, wiggle them around and listen for a hissing sound.
