Look down to the Crank Shaft Pulley (has a large bolt), there will be a dot/line.
Turns the Crank Shaft Pulley until the gear match up to a Marking on the engine. Then all the rear & front cams should be aligned.

SOURCE: Timming belt broke

Go to your local NAPA, Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly's, Checkers, AutoZone, or whoever you deal with, and they can provide you with a timing mark index for your application. If they tell you they can't, it's because they don't want to. You may also find that this is an interference engine, and that a valve job may be in order. The piston and the valves occupy the same space, but at different times. When a timing belt breaks on an interference engine, the piston and the valves may then try to occupy the same space at the same time. Piston wins, valves lose. In most cases anyway.

SOURCE: vehicle runs withlow power. Timing marks appear

If the timing is off you need to go back and reinstall the timing belt properly. If you trust the job done check your catalytic converter and make sure its not pluged up it will cause loss of power and acceleration. Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: how to line crank and cam for timing belt on 1988 no crank marks

Hard to explain here... but I believe that car also has the balance shaft which needs to be timed as well. The camshaft has 2 lines which line up to the top of the head, and a "up" or "top" mark at the top.
Crank is set to 0 degrees.

SOURCE: on an 03 accord 3.0L you line the crank notch with

the cam mark is on the compression stroke of the number one piston must hand turn until pressure builds in number one use a long wooden rod like a dowel and make sure the dowel is longer then your stroke so it does not fall within the cylinder head.keep turning it until it begins to fall again then find the very top of the cylinder by moving it backwards a hair then reinstall timing chain or belt.

1999 Ford Expedition 5.4L Timing chain setup. timing is off, need help realigning the cam sprokets. what are the correct angles

When they are lined the notch on the crank pully Will be a little befor the six o'clock position. The mark on the passenger side cam gear will be about the 11 o'clock position. The mark on the drivers side cam will be a little after the 12 o'clock position. The trimming chain will have three copper colored links. One by itself and two right next to each other. The single link will line up with the notch on the crank gear. The mark on the cam gear will line up in between the two copper colored links that are next to each other. Replaced water pump and now i need to know how to reset timing

I hop you are replacing the belt and tensioner/ idler pulleys. the crank pulley has a notch approx 12'oclock. the cams will be marked rear cam "I" and front cam "E" .. put both letters at 12 o clock. there should be a notch at the top of the cover for the cams at 12 o clock. thats all there is to it. to tension the belt, after you have it all timed up. put some tension on it, tighten tensioner bolt, turn the engine 2 revolutions, then double check your marks, push down with you thumb between the cam sprokets with 20 lbs of force, the belt should delfect about 10MM if its too loose, loosen the tensione rbolt an dturn it tighter a little more an dck tension again. If you get it too tight it will whine and wear the cam journals, too loose and timing will not be correct.

Timing marks

crank shaft sproket is the center punch mark and the cam sproket is the small hole they dont line up to eachother but to the tabs on the chain tensioner
