How do I make the power antenna go up when the radio turns on after installing a new aftermarket headunit?

The old stereo, when turned on to radio, would make the power antenna go up. After installing a new Sony headunit, I cannot seem to find a trigger wire not sure if there should be or not and cannot get the antenna to power up. I have plugged in the coaxial cord and can get a very grainy FM signal with the antenna not going up.

The instructions of the new power aerial will explain how to wire up the unit
some are wire for wire and others some wires are used and others the wires are different
talk with a radio installer for suggestions of the wiring

Sorry for the confusion. I am wiring my new headunit to the old (stock) power antenna

  • Bill Boyd Aug 10, 2016

select a wire that has power on it that goes to the antenna when the radio is switched on and work from there
you only need one power wire and possible an ground wire or the antenna may ground back through the outer case of the coaxial cable , through the radio case to ground

How do I fix the clock display on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire?

It appears to be that the radio clock display has malfunctioned, and is due for a replacement radio, which could be an aftermarket or oem radio, maybe found at a junk yard.

Tools required for oem replacement radio, torx keys set.

Before working on the radio or other electronics, disconnect the battery cables with 8mm wrench.

Replacing the oem radio is much easier, if you obtain oem radio, compared to aftermarket radio, due to being direct fit.

The radio is same for 1995 to 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the Chevy Cavalier, regardless of sub models, such as SE,GT, VL,VLX,Z24. etc.

Parts needed for the the aftermarket radio install :Stereo assembly, stereo wiring harness adapter, radio antenna adapter, and dash install kit.wiring diagram for the wire colors / functions, along with tools, such as torx key set, screwdrivers, wire crimper, wire stripper, double ended wiring connectors, hair dryer.

The oem stereo removal video is for the 2000 to 2005 Sunfire / Cavalier, but are the same or very similar procedures.

Where is antenna for radio

It is the top[ lines in the rear glass. If you look close, you can see the separation. Most new window tints are metallic, and ruin the antenna, I made sure they didn't tint the antenna on my 2003 Civic. Any aftermarket antenna will work, the antenna cable coming out of the radio is just like any other.

Should i have any spare wires when hooking up an after market car stereo

Yes, It's a very good possibility that you will have a few wires left over. Normally a wire for an aftermarket amp to be triggered on when you turn your radio on and possibly a power antenna or a dimming function that dims your radio lights when your headlights are on. It of course always depends on if you have a power antenna or not, or if you have an aftermarket amp or not or if you have the dimming feature on your car or not. These wires don't apply to everyone.
You will just match the colors between the wiring harness that came with the DUAL radio and the interface adapter that goes to your car. Make sure you use **** style crimp connectors. If not the wires could come loose or cause a popping noise or cause the radio to turn off while driving.
Other than that, installing an aftermarket radio is mostly matching the colors up between the two harnesses and crimping the wires together.3_6_2012_2_31_36_am.jpg

I need the radio operating manual for a Jeep Patriot 2009 model. Where can I down load it from as the local dealer cannot seem to find a hard copy for me.

following is the procedure. u can also check ehow for more details.
  • Twist the negative cable off the terminal on the vehicle battery, using an adjustable wrench.
  • Remove the factory issue stereo. Pry off the radio trim bezel with a flat head screwdriver. Remove the four bolts on each corner of the radio. Pull the radio out the dashboard. Unplug the thick black radio antenna cable. Disconnect the wire harnesses from the rear of the stereo. Place the old stereo to one side.
  • Prepare the dashboard for the new stereo. Fit the radio installation sleeve provided with the aftermarket stereo to the radio installation kit. Feed the sleeve through the portal of the radio installation kit and bend the tabs on the sides of the sleeve to secure it in place. Feed the audio wiring of the Jeep and the radio antenna cable through the portal of the assembly and slide the assembly into the dashboard. Secure it in place with the bolts removed earlier.
  • Wire the new stereo. Connect the wiring of the stereo to the audio wiring of the Patriot, using a custom wire harness adapter. Push the connections together until they snap into place and test the connection by tugging gently on either end.
  • Plug the radio antenna cable into the alloted port on the rear of the aftermarket head unit.
  • Slide the connected aftermarket stereo into the prepared housing in the Patriot's dashboard. Click it into place in the radio installation sleeve, taking care not to trap any wiring.

My daughter has a 98 olds 88 i removed the stock stereo and put in a pioneer cd player but i didnt see any wire on the stereo side for the elec. antenna i was wondering how i can wire it to work

Most aftermarket pioneer cd/radio decks have the electrical connector for the antenna that I've seen.

Is this a cd only deck, or does it have radio functions?

Did you use a new harness wiring adapter to get the pioneer radio to work with the old harness?
There should be a color coded set of wires for the power antenna on that. And, then the Pioneer radio should have wires that were labeled for the power antenna.

My power antenna won't go down when i turn off my car or my radio. i have a 1995 chevy impala ss

this is normal the power antenna gets power from the radio and unless the radio is shut off either from powering it down or turning off the car it will stay up. if it is an aftermarket stereo and is staying up when you are on cd's check to make sure that your antenna is hooked to the antenna output on the radio and not the system remote as the system remote is hot any time the radio is powered to run amplifiers.

Trying to install an aftermarket stereo 1994 GMC 1500

You have to unplug the old radio. The radio isn't the part in the dash. That is just the control to the radio. The radio is actually under the dash above the accelerator pedal. It should have the power wires, speaker wires and antenna wire going to it.
