Air pocket in cooling system is a possibility however the 3.4 liter gm v6 is also famous for the lower intake manifold gasket going out as well as head gasket issues. That engine is difficult to bleed air from as the bleed valve is not the highest point of the engine. Raise it in jack stands, bring to operating temp and Crack the bleed valve open until no air comes out then close. Repeat and make sure to keep water level uo. May take many tries to correct. If it turns out the intake gasket is gone or the heads have to be done make sure to get the upgraded gaskets used since late 2004. They are reinforced with a better material.

SOURCE: 2000 Chevy Venture shows gas gauge as always full..

if the remote works but the switches inside the van doesn't then the most likely fix would be the switch, tthough it is strange that both would quit. the place too start would be pop out the switch with a small screwdriver and disconnect the connector. the top left pin and the top middle pin is the unlock circuit in the switch. check continuity with your multimeter while pressing unlock. if no continuity, then get a small piece of wire and jump those pins in the connector,( the top right and center ) you should hear the doors unlock, then you know for a fact that the switch is bad. the unlock is used more than the lock so it is a more common failure. you can also use a continuity test on the rear wiper switch. though it is more common that the motor would stick from not being used. hope this helps if you have any more questions i am glad to help... dustang

White smoke is usually coolant in the combustion chamber. Check for leaks, with a pressure tester.

The heater doesn't work very well on my 2000 Chevy Venture van. I'm wondering if I should try replacing the thermostat. Or, it is all computer controlled now.

If heat gauge reads normal, stays in the middle, then you do not need to mes up with the thermostat. I own a 2000 Chevy Venture and changing the thermostat was not fan.
It may be the Temperature Control Module, which you can buy for $45 and replace without problem, or may be an partially obstructed heating core. The GM Dex-Cool antifreeze, the read one, has additives, but if you do not flush the radiator every 2 or 3 years, can result in partially clogged heater core. I have done on my car twice till now, and replaced with green Prestone, on my own risk. Hope this will help. If need more information let me know. A have the Haynes manual for Chevy Venture 2000, and I am a car dealer.

Chevy venture van overheating the temperature gauge will go to the last white mark on the gauge then it will drop as i'm driving it. it will keep doing this.

It sounds like the coolant level is getting very low. Only check it when it is cold! Check the level in the radiator and in the overflow bottle. Chances are you have a leak somewhere, these vans had problems with intake manifold gaskets. A big job.

Engine does not appear to be hot. Gauge says extreme heat

try replacing your temperature sending switch. That it what tells your gauge or idiot light where to read or light to come on. It may have a short in it. Or a short between the two.

Chevy Venture Overheating

Almost sounds like the same symptons as my van. Turns out the guage was not the problem. The van was in fact running hot because the electric radiator fans were not kicking in when the engine was hot. I replaced the relay switches for the fans. There are two of these in the fuse panel under the hood. There has been no problem with overheating since
