Pt cruiser lock cylinder change

Have panel off. Two torx screws holding lock bracket are loose. I see an orange plastic clip attached to an arm on the old lock cylinder. I expect this clip will have to be detached. What holds the lock cylinder to the bracket and how do I get at it to remove the lock cylinder from the door?

  • John Persico Jul 30, 2016

I did get the lock changed. I slid the U shaped bracket secured with two torx fasteners out.

Then, I put the edge of a small screwdriver under the lock and over the rubber lock gasket on the outside of the door, and pried the lock out of the door enough to be able to get to the orange plastic fastener on the unlocking rod.

I replaced the lock with a new one and reassembled the door.

If I ever do one again, I guess 20 minutes from start to end would do it.

    Thanks for the replies.

On most cars the lock cylinder slides thru the door and a clip slides onto it to hold it in place. You have to, obviously, remove the rod that connects to the lock mechanism as wll

How do i change lock cylinder ih rear hatch on 2002 chevy tahoe

The plastic trim pad is usually held in place with a couple of screws and then either slid into place with built in hooks or arrowhead clips. if hooks just slide the panel up or down to remove. if clips, they have to be pried loose with a tool that looks like a nail puller. Once off, peel back the moisture barrier (don't rip it ) locate the lock cylinder, disconnect the rod from the plastic retainer, and pry the spring clip that holds the cylinder to the door,

Driver side door lock barrel turns, but does not unlock the door + my key FOB is dead

Well your FOB REMOTE Battery could be dead, try replacing it
on you lock cylinder, sounds like the clip that holds it fell off, broke or rusted off ? You have to take your inside door panel off to check this, there are screws and clips that hold your door panel on, some screws are around your arm rest, inside door handle, and there might also be some around the panel itself, the clips are behind the panel, by using a flathead screwdriver you can pry these, by sliding the screwdriver around the panel, but be careful not to crack your panel.
once off, check your door lock cylinder, there should be a U shape clip holding it, if not check the bottom of your door.
if your lock is molded in the plastic door handle, then you have to take this off

Is there any certain way to remove the driver's door panel

There's a few tools you'll need:
panel removal tool $7-$10 (forked)
if you have hand crank windows you'll also need a window crank removal tool
screw drivers - philips and small straight
Note pad and pen or pencil
zip lock plastic bag
May need:
socket set
allen and torx drivers

Use the note pad to make notes where everything goes.
Open the door all the way.
Use the straight screw driver to pop any small plastic covers off.
remove any screws that are holding the panel or arm rests or anything else attached to the door (this is where the socket, allen or torx drivers may come in handy)
put all the small part in the plastic bag (use more than one to keep things straight, if you need to.)
starting at the bottom back corner start gently pulling the panel, you'll soon find spots where it's sticking, here you'll find plastic panel attachment pins. Using your panel removal tool, slide it under the panel and find the panel pins, slide the tool around the pins and pry them loose, You may find an extra screw you missed or a few panel pin toward the center, remove as before.
The panel should now be hanging by where it clips over the window edge (if working indoors, putting the window down ahead of time helps here) gentle lift and pull the panel up and off where it's hanging.
All that's left is disconnecting any wires, there will be clips molded into the sides to hold them in place, gently lift the clip and disconnect them.
Your panel should be loose.
Reverse to reinstall.

I need to replace the ignition switch for my gmc sierra 1995 but don't know how please help

not sure if u mean the ignition lock cylinder or the actual electrical switch but here are all the instructions.
The mechanical switch itself is rod actuated and located under the dash bolted to the steering column. Remove and trim panels to expose the column bracket. mark the location of the shift indicator clip, and remove with a small flathead screw driver. drop the column and it's right there ,I think it's has two 7mm screws holding it on.

If you are talking about the key cylinder itself you will need to remove the steering wheel, remove the plastic lock ring cover, if you have an air bag there is a ring with yellow wres coming in and out if it, this you CANNOT turn this ring w/o causing damag to the unit and rendering your airbag useless and eht airbag light to come on, remove it carefully and set it on top of the column. With a special tool press the locking ring down and remove the snap ring. After the locking ring is removed you expose the turn signal switch/cam, remove the screw on the left of the cam that attaches the turn signal arm to the switch, and remove the emergency flasher button, both should be phillips head. After the arm and button are removes remove the 3 screws that old the switch in place. GENTLY pull up on the switch, making sure not to break the wiring harness. There is a small plastic and copper connector over a torx head crew, remove it with needle nose pliers being careful not to damage it, this is the terminal that make the buzzer go off when you open the door and leave the keys in the ignition. Now remove the torx head screw and slid out the key cylinder. Re-assemble in reverse order.

94 saturn door panel removel

Well, first you have to remove the outside door panel. To do this remove the door handle on the out side. Lift up the handle and look underneath. You will see 2 little round pins sticking in the handle. Take a small punch and push them up. The handle slides to one side and then off.
Next you need a torx wrench to remove the 10 panel bolts located inside the door frame. I think it is a 40 torx.
Once they are removed you can lift up on the door panel and remove. You can't get access anyother way. Inside door cover can only be remove by removing the outside panel and
taking the clips off. So, once you have the outter door panel off you will the workings. You will need a flash light. Check the throw arm that attaches the locking switch on the lock to the door latch assembly. More then likly that is all that came loose. If that is ok then you need to replace the door catch assembly. Not an easy project. If you can do it the part is about $50 from the dealer. You will need to remove the 3 torx screws attaching the assembly to the inside door frame. Disconnect all the clips that attach the arms. Installation is the reverse. NOT AN EASY JOB TO DO. Plan on a whole day to figure all this out.
