No --some reasons 140 would blow battery connected wrong-battery internal short --alternator wired wrong--alternator faulty

Why is my alternator not charging thd battery

no car told, maker, year model or country (zero)
the 1st new one blew up the huge fuse 50 to 150 amps./
(yes a bad alt can blow any fuse,of the 3)
some have 3 fuses, 2 tiny and 1 giant 100amp + fuse
any of those blown kills a 10 new Alts DEAD.
OR YES A BATTERY WITH 1 DEAD CELL THE ALT SHUTS DOWN TO BATTERY EXPLOSION (ACID FLYING EVERY WHERE NEVER FUN)
no car told at al but here is the aggregate list( blinded in a text box)
1: no the 3 alts are not bad.
2: yes fuses blown'
3: loose battery cables, all end lugs tight and not rusty.
4: the dash light named (battery/charge/Gen ) lamp dead key on is no good that, and dead bad lamp or fuse bad or ALT rear plug not plugged in? post what this dash error lamp does fully.?????????

5::many cars for sure old fords are fully goofy looking, FUSEABLE links.
that blow out if alternator installed with battery neg lug not removed in step1 of the process, the service manual told you to do that,. .
5: some alts are born dead if the CHANGE lamp is burned out this path current ,does ALT, excitation current and missing the regulator goes off line. some do have self excitation but NOT ALL.

find all easy to find blown fuses first
make sure the cluster charge lamp glows just key on
then use a volt meter at the huge 50 to 150amp engine bay box .
12vdc both sides if not bingo the problem is here.
if no 100 amps huge easy to pull fuse there.?
then it must have a FUSEABLE link, you cant find and all techs know to look for or see them in the service manual here.

6: some PCM have the regulator inside it and can fail.
7:some older cars have box named regulator, in plain site
that is bad.or even upgrades on it to full electronic, versions.
yes ,see few.

googling endless LINks (fuseable)
vast types exist. they exist to stop FIRE if any Alternator shorts./

Will a blown fuse keep a dodge the coda 2000 with a 4.7 from starting the fuses 140 amp fuse that runs from the battery to the alternator

Hi Kelly, IM AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

YES Kelly that fuse will keep the vehicle from starting, If you install a new fuse and it blows again you most likely have a shorted alternator, to check it out, simple unhook the power wire from the back of the alternator, install a new fuse and if it does not blow again then replaced the alternator with a new one. CAUSION: Please be very careful not to let the power wire from the alternator touch anything be cause it can melt something. Best way is to unhook the battery, take the wire off and wrap it with a towel then hook the battery back up and do your test with the fuse. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website:

1996 Ranger alternator tests prove it to be OK. Truck starts and runs; alternator puts out what appears to be excessive power (14.2 amps) to a nearly -fully-charged battery. The alternator charge warning...

I would replace the alternator. The test might of proved it was ok but that just checks to make sure its putting out the amperage its rated at. Sounds like its shorted internally and putting out full amps all the time.

Put a new alternator in.still not charging battery

If your old alternator was shorted, it may have blown fuse #8 in the instrument panel fuse block. It is a 10 Amp fuse and is the ignition circuit feed for the alternator.
