If you don't have the original code you can't. If you have an aftermarket radio, you can't. I can reset them with my scanner. But not if the radio isn't factory. I don't know if the dealer can. Call around.

How do you rest keyless for mercury mountaineer 2002

You cannot reset the keyless entry on any ford product. You can add additional keyless entry 5 digit codes but only if you know the original code. A dealer can retrieve the original code as along as you can prove you own the vehicle. some charge for this service.

My alarm goes off intermittently

Try resetting the alarm, using the instructions given at the link below. I'll also copy the text here.

  1. Insert the ignition/door key in the door lock on the driver's- side door of your Mountaineer.
  2. Turn the key to the lock position.
  3. Turn your key to the unlock position.
  4. Turn your key to the lock position.
  5. Turn your key to the unlock position. Your alarm is now disabled. If your key fob works, you can also press the unlock or alarm-disable button on the fob.
  6. Start the Mountaineer's engine and allow the vehicle to run for at least 10 minutes. This will allow the alarm to relearn the default settings. You must make sure that you have disabled the alarm first, however, before you attempt to start the vehicle, so that the alarm will reset itself.

If these instructions don't work, you can try resetting the car's computer by unplugging the battery for half an hour. However, that will reset the keyless entry code, as you can see in the fixya article I link to at the bottom

Just bought a 2002 Mountaineer w/keyless entry. The problem is no one at the dealer knows the code. How can I reset it?

In the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, especially with the 3rd row seat, remove the trim panels at the rear of the back door and at the tailgate on the passenger side. You will see two panels where the wall seat belt is located, remove the top panel first and then pull the lower panel out. Then pull the lower trim panel forward CAREFULLY. Towards the front (near the door opening) you will see a small black box (says Security Unit) On it in fairly small print will be the 5 digit code.
[ONE set of FIVE numbers and that is your CODE number.]

How do you reset the code on the keyless entry

Hi,

It seems you have problems in locating the original code to gain entry into your mercury car, however, you will find it on the back of the door lock module,in the right trunk area or below the rear passenger window.

However,If you still desire to reset the code, the only solution to this problem is that the computer will have to be reflashed by a qualified technician.

Take care..

Entry code om drivers door

The keyless entry module is located in the rear of the vehicle on the driver's side. You will need to partially remove the left rear panel in the cargo area. You will then see the keyless entry module bolted behind a metal reinforcement bar. There is a sticker on the module that has the 5 digit entry code.
