Hello Shawn Striedinger,

Your ECM (Engine Control Module, see below) needs its knock, temp sensors (AND OTHERS) ...

ECMs run about $100 a pop (remanufactured)... there SPARKY
(I'm just saying)...
When SERIOUS money kicks in... so do stringent
anti-static precautions, faraday shipping bags, special grounded carpets... and natural fiber lab coats

RE-CONNECTED (back up) TO MAKE sparks... To avoid damaging all that solid-state (semiconductor) equipment during this process you SHOULD WEAR an anti-static WRIST BAND (SEE pictured below)... Mandated by all electronic professionals

Assuming all that has been done (correctly)... beg, borrow or buy an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) code reader... to find out hat YOUR vehicle thinks it's problems are...

Parts houses, transmission & muffler shops can catch codes for FREE... merely as an attraction.. USE IT...!

OR...

Go to BBB Industries tech site... bulletins and wiring diagrams...
(registration required)...

Personally
I buy the factory+workshop+manual to get all the best information... (HEARTILY RECOMMENDED)
Not only tells you where things are hidden... but how to easily find them... test & replace them... all good!

New or used... make sure you get Volume 3, the electrical schematics (contained there-in)...

Also... Never handle any semi-conductor component you CARE ABOUT without taking special care to avoid ESD (electrostatic Discharge) damages precautions. The slightest static spark CAN UTTERLY DESTROY the most robust of SEMI-CONDUCTORS.

A spark so small you might not even feel it yourself.

Hope this helps

All that... and I forgot the OTHER most important point: Make sure you put back that GROUND STRAP (Sorry).

SOURCE: What tools do you need to replace a 1997 Ford F250 diesel fuel pump?

nothing special, its in the valley, probably have to remove the fuel bowl and the turbo pedastal to get access to it.
book value from navistar / ford is a 4 hour job.
better have a good ladder and a plywood sheet to lay on up in the engine bay.

SOURCE: remove and replace 1984 ford f250 460 water pump

Water pump

Disconnect the battery ground.

  1. Drain the cooling system.
CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
  1. Remove the bolts securing the fan shroud to the radiator, if so equipped, and position the shroud over the fan. Remove the fan assembly.
  2. Remove the fan shroud. Remove the accessory drive belts and water pump pulley. Remove the alternator and brackets. Remove the compressor and bracket and lay it aside. DO NOT disconnect the refrigerant lines! Remove the power steering pump and brackets. Lay it aside. DO NOT disconnect the fluid lines! Disconnect the heater hose and lower radiator hose from the pump. Remove the bolts securing the water pump to the engine and lift off the water pump. Clean all gasket mounting surfaces thoroughly.
    To install:

Install the water pump in the reverse order of removal, using a new gasket coated with sealer. Torque the bolts to 12-18 ft. lbs.

Install all remaining parts in reverse order. Fill the cooling system, start the engine and check for leaks.

TIMMING CHAIN

  1. Remove the front cover.
  2. Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise to take up the slack on the left side of the chain. establish a reference point on the cylinder block and measure from this point to the chain.
  3. Rotate the crankshaft in the opposite direction to take up the slack on the right side of the chain.
  4. Force the left side of the chain out with your fingers and measure the distance between the reference point and the chain. The timing chain deflection is the difference between the two measurements. If the deflection exceeds 1 / 2 inch; (13mm), replace the timing chain and sprockets.

To replace the timing chain and sprockets:
  1. Turn the crankshaft until the timing marks on the sprockets are aligned vertically.
  2. Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining screw and remove the fuel pump eccentric and washers.
  3. Alternately slide both of the sprockets and timing chain off the crankshaft and camshaft until free of the engine.
  4. Position the timing chain on the sprockets so that the timing marks on the sprockets are aligned vertically. Alternately slide the sprockets and chain onto the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets.
  5. Install the fuel pump eccentric washers and attaching bolt on the camshaft sprocket. Tighten to 40-45 ft. lbs.
  6. Install the front cover.

I have a problem with a 2000 Ford F250. have changed thermostat, water pump and radiator. truck does not overheat, but will force water back out through the reservoir. is it a intake maniford or head...

You have a blown gasket.
You will have to repair it with a new gasket.
First try a quick fix like a Stop Leak for head gasket Bars Leaks or similar heavy duty.

Ford truck f250 v8 motor idles high after engine heats up it idles higher cant find a vacuum leak replaced a idle air valve it didnt help

the vacuum leak that causes this high idle is the gasket at the bottom of the upper intake manifold runners, they **** in, done 100's. to confirm this just spray carb cleaner at inside and outside base, when u hit the leak you will hear it. see photo.
