Is this a manual or automatic, makes a big difference. Id it is a automatic the backup light switch is part of the range selector switch, if it is a manual it will be on the side of the transmission, I can show you both parts in pictures below.
Here is the switch for a manual transmission.

How to wire ignition switch on 95 top kick with a 31106 cat

Identify Components: Before starting, make sure you have the ignition switch and necessary wiring harness.

Disconnect Battery: Ensure the battery is disconnected to prevent any electrical accidents.

Locate Ignition Switch Wiring Diagram: Obtain a wiring diagram for the ignition switch and the Caterpillar 3116 engine. This will help you identify the correct wires to connect.

Mount Ignition Switch: Mount the ignition switch in a convenient and secure location within the vehicle.

Connect Wires: Using the wiring diagram, connect the wires from the ignition switch to the corresponding terminals on the Caterpillar 3116 engine. Typically, the ignition switch will have terminals labeled for various functions such as ignition, accessory, starter, and battery.

Test Connections: Once the wiring is completed, double-check all connections to ensure they are secure and correctly wired.

Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the vehicle's battery.

Test Ignition: Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and verify that electrical components such as lights, gauges, and accessories are functioning properly.

Start Engine: Attempt to start the engine and ensure that the starter engages and the engine cranks properly.

Final Checks: After successful installation, perform a final check of all connections and ensure that there are no loose wires or potential electrical hazards.

Location of backup light switch on a 2006 lincoln navagator

Did you check voltage and ground at the bulb connector or wiring circuits for the bulb?

The switch may be part of the transmission range sensor, sometimes they call it a neutral switch. I would have to check wiring circuits first. At the moment, I'm having trouble finding a wiring diagram for this. Some of the databases I use, I timed out.

Backup light not working

Hi Wayne:
Things to check:
- Bulb
- Receptacle contacts
- Ground
- Power at receptacle contact.
- switch
- fuse
- wires and connections.
Finding the problem is a fun exercise using a voltmeter and a continuity meter, and finding out what is and is not working, and where power is, should be, and isn't.
The problem will be between these parameters (fancy word for places)
It's fun!
Cheers.

Problems with 92 nissan maxima backup light burns out meter fuse

Remove the backup bulbs and check again. If the fuse still blows, find the backup switch and see if it has failed and shorts when activated. You may need a Chilton book to locate the switch, it may be on the transmission, or on the gear selector linkage.

The backup lights on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't work. Have checked all the things I know how to except the NSS. Where is the NSS located and am I better off trying to clean/adjust it or replace it?

the backup light gets its power from the neutral safety switch on transmission.
\When you put vehicle in reverse it toggles the switch in the tranny to engage the backup lights.
if that plug has the wire broke off the backup lights will not work.

Do not use a jumper, the ECM is hooked directly to those wires. It is very possible to short out your ECM.
