SOURCE: 2000 Toyota Sienna tailgate door will not open/broken handle

I hope I can help, I had the same problem on my 2001. I called the dealership and they said 375.00 + parts to fix. Being mechanically inclined I decidet to try it myself. Please understand, this is not exact, but is a pretty good guide. To open from the outside, make sure doors are unlocked(mine relocked after a minute or so) place a screwdriver, long and thin, into the slot that the handle passes through the door on the right side. Raise the handle of the driver, and you should be pressing down on a cable that operates the latch. the door should release. If you cant do that, from the inside, remove the two side trim pieces. Then remove the inner door panel, One screw under plastic cap on handle, one under cap on strap... and pop off all plastic buttons(hidden) between the door and cover, a 1" putty knife will work for this. You will see the cable that used to connect to the handle. Remove the cable by pulling it through the slot(apparent when you get to it) and now remove the two screws that hold the handle on. Also, you have to remove a screw from the passengers side of the cover plate over the handle. the plate will slide(not sure which way now), and it will come off. replace the handle and etc..... inreverse.. Took me 25 minutes, start to finish. Further questions, let me know. remember, mine was 2001 Sienna.

SOURCE: Lock on Tailgate will not release

Try checking that the handle in the tailgate returns to the 'open' postion. Once in a while, usually during/after the winter, the tailgate handle gets stuck in the 'pressed in' postion. I have to use WD-40 or some other lubricant to get the handle working again, which allows me to unlock and open the tailgate.

SOURCE: 2004 GMC Envoy XUV SLT

There is a technical service bulletin regarding this problem with 2004 GMC envoy. Actually there are 3 separate issues with regards to the elecronic tailgate. The reason why the dealers are backordered is the part you want keeps failing after a time of being installed.

For the particular problem you have of the electronic latch not working, the bulletin recommends a inspection of the endgate connector C900. Look for the wires to be backed out of the connector or not properly crimped. To crimp you will need a crimping tool available at any electrical supply shop. The connectors can be had from the dealers.

The other solution referred to intermittent operation of the endgate but can apply in your situation also. For that, look for chaffing at the wire harness connectors for the endgate actuators located at the upper right and lower left latches. They have been found to be pinched up to 8 inches away from the actuators. In this situation it would be ideal to replace the connectors and install in a way so wires will not be pinched.

The other thing to look out for is dusty sensors. For this you will need to remove the tailgate trim panel and locate the 2 optical sensors on either side. You can feel them with your hand, they will be the size of a nickel. Clean all the dust under the trim. In addition to that you should open the switch and use contact cleaner to clean out any dust or debris inside there. There is no mechanical way to open the door once the electronic side has malfunctioned without damaging the door. I hope this helps.

Does the 2009 CR-V have a door jamb sensor for the tailgate? Tailgate light is on, on dash. Doors won't lock with FOB or while moving. Tailgate closes, locks and unlocks, it just thinks it's open.

Sounds like a bad switch on the tailgate. Open your tailgate and look for a switch. When you find it...press it in completely and see if the sensor light goes off. If so, replace it.

I HAVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE AND THE REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN FUSE IS GOOD. PLEASE HELP ME.

You need a latch assembly. Common problem. Open the hatch glass. Then try and lift up and push forward the plastic door panel around the spot where the glass closes into the hatch. It should give you enough room to see the latch assembly inside. Use a flashlight to look for the latch which is in the center bottom of the hatch. There is a white plastic lever. Push or pull on the lever and the door should open. The latch has a electric actuator that goes bad. Only replaced as a latch assembly.

Accord 2009 tourer tailgate wont open,

If there is no lever that means that the thing you grab to open it is an electrical switch. Your possibilities are a bad tailgate release switch, a bad latch assembly, bad latch motor (most likely integrated into the latch) or lack of power from a blown fuse. First check the fuses. Next make sure all the doors are unlocked and check for power and ground to switch and latch. If the vehicle has been in any accidents in that area you can also check for broken wires in the harness that runs to that area.

I cant open the glass on my back hatch any suggestions?

The glass hatch release handles fail all the time on these models (which is why the system was eliminated in 2009 models).

The glass hatch handle is $32 list from the dealer.

Removal and replacement requires a philips screwdriver and a 10mm socket and ratchet with extension.

Open the glass hatch by manually activating it through the access hole on the inside of the tailgate (small square panel covering it)

Remove the two philips screws and the one pop fastener holding the plastic trim on the back of the glass hatch handle area.

Remove the two 10mm nuts holding the handle on, unplug the wire and remove, noting the routing of the wiring on removal.

Reassemble in opposite order, being sure to route the wiring correctly.

2003 Ford Explorer back door latch will not open

Mine just did the exact same thing. The latch may be moving freely because it is not hooked to the latching mechanism anymore. In my case, the handle had broken where the handle hooks to the rod that operates the mechanism. Go to the Ford dealer and buy a new handle. Here in S.C. it was $24. You can't get this at the parts houses. Start by removing the plastic "Ford" cover that is over the liscense plate lights. You then have to remove the aluminum rivets that hold the handle to the tailgate from the outside and remove the broken latch. Remove the pull handle loop on the interior side of the tailgate (2 screws), unsnap the inside plastic tailgate interior panel, and pull down the black plastic sheeting that is underneath the panel to make access to the mechanism inside of the tailgate. There is also a hard plastic cover that you will see that needs to be pulled loose to open another access hole. Install the new tailgate latch handle by sliding back into the mounting holes and attach with two 10-32 screws and nuts. The new handle will come with a new yellow rod attachment piece on the handle. You will see inside of the tailgate a small rod hanging down, most likeky it will have the same rod attachment piece as the one on the new handle. Note the position of the yellow piece on the rod, as you will connect the new piece in the same place. Once the rod is hooked up, relubricate the metal mechanism with a light machine oil, replace the black plastic cover, replace the black plastic sheeting, (secure with a small amount of duct tape), replace the tailgate interior panel, replace the pull handle loop, shut tailgate, replace "Ford" cover over lights, and you're done!
