Its sometimes hard to tell ware a noise is coming from while driving the vehicle .
You call it a clunk while turning .Truthfully its more likely to be a CV joint problem in the front end that sounds like its coming from the rear .Because if you are going straight not turning the front wheels you don't hear it .Although when you turn the front wheels it puts force on the rear carrier because the front wheels and rear wheels are moving different distances inside is shorter then out side so eventuality things will ware out .
The vehicle is to new 2013 to have these kind of problems ..Have you hit any big pot holes or curbs this could give you this kind of problem .
Its hard to say with out looking at it
Could be a bad wheel bearing , loose wheel nuts or failing suspension mount for that side

make sure handbrake is off take wheel off hit the drum with a mallet not steel,as it will brake,hit on outter diametter face of drum, try and rotate as you twist off

I have had the exact same problem. I took it to the dealership and was told they could not find anything wrong, I drive it and it goes off "rapid fire" at times. A friend of mine has the same model and has lots of electrical issues with his. This is a bad model year for the Ford Escape.

Putting the key in the ignition and turning it on will turn off the security, if everything is working. You need to put a scanner on it and see which part isn't working. The Key, the BCM, the ECM, or it could be wiring. Resetting is a dealer option only. Rekeying can be done by some locksmiths.
