Do you need to do any welding to replace the gas tank straps on a Toyota Rav4?

I have found the straps for sale but I was told by an auto repair guy there is welding involved in replacing the straps but I don't see why.

SOURCE: Serpentine Belt Toyota Rav4

Hi maroon,

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator. Double check your routing.
  • The tensioner pulley is on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

SOURCE: Replace 2007 Toyota Rav4 super sport passenger side door mirror

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

SOURCE: 2001 Rav4 tune-up should include what?

With the cars computers and electronic fuel controls and ignition controls, about all that is needed any more for a tune up is to replace the spark plugs and or the spark plug wires. You can have the injectors cleaned, or add a fuel additive / injector cleaner in your tank. But thats about it. Check any belts and change the oil.

SOURCE: how to replace a fuel pump on a toyota rav4 1998

you need to remove the rear seat to get to it, just keep in mind the system is preasurized, which in english means you need to loosen the fuel filter in the front of the car first, "THIS IS CRITICAL" if not you will cause gas to get all over the interior. The 96-00 rav4 has a hatch under the carpet, under the seats in the rear. it is a pain to get to, once you remove the seats and carpet you will see it. I would recomend you bring it to a dealer if you dont know what you are doing. But if you are like me and figured what the hell, then you will want to take these steps first...
1. Let the car sit for a long period of time, about 3 hours or more.
2. Have a low amount of fuel, do not have a full tank
3. loosen the gas cap
4. Remove the intake, and the fuse box,
5. Loosen the top nut on the fuel filter under the hood to let out the remaining pressure, do not loose the O rings. This is a good time to replace that filter too, it is about 30 bucks from toyota.
6. open the hatch in the rear,
7. remove the electric feeds from the pump.
NOTE: YOU CAN REMOVE THE POWER FROM THE PUMP AND START THE CAR TO TAKE OUT THE PREASURE, BUT I FOUND IT BETTER TO DO IT MY WAY DUE TO WHAT IT TAKES TO START IT AFTER YOU DO THIS.
8. line the floor of the rav with Plastic, bags, or cardboard, or something.
9. remove old pump
10. install new pump
11. Re attach the fuel filter or install new filter
12. get car back together enough to start it, make sure you have all the lines connected, if not gas will get everywhere...
Good Luck, it was a FUN adventure to do this...

Can I replace the fuel pump without taking out the gas tank on a Toyota 2008 RAV4.

You should be able to access it from the back of the fuel tank without dropping the tank, although you will have to raise the vehicle a bit to have good access.

You're either going to have to replace tank or have tank removed and welded. Gas tank straps will rub through tank and do.

Leak in the gas tank

Repairing a fuel tank can be dangerous so don't try to do it yourself. Any attempt to weld the tank will result in an explosion, even if the tank is completely empty; you can't get rid of the explosive fumes.
You'll be better off replacing the tank if there is a hole in it.

First you should remove the tank and locate where the leak is actually coming from. There could be a problem with one of the hoses in the top of the tank and the fuel is flowing to the lowest point before dropping to the ground. If the leak is in the tank its self, JB Weld makes a product designed to repair the leak. Follow the directions on the package. It can be found at most auto part stores.
Do not under any circumstance remove and not replace the rubber between the strap and the tank. If you did, the steel strap would rub on the tank and cause more problems.

I need to remove fuel tank for cleaning

Is it welded at the one end, or is it pinned like a hinge? Or a hook?

Most gas tanks use two straps that are fixed to the vehicle chassis at one end by pin or keylike slot, and bolted at the other. Remove bolts, tank drops down whlie straps remain under tank.
