Where are the recharge ports for ac on a 1997 Oldsmobile cutless subprime

does the stick shifter knob unscrew ? they usally do

It doesn't matter where the compressor is.

When you get the install kit it will have directions to follow. There are two ports on the ac lines. One is larger than the other to help prevent you from connecting to the wrong side of the system. The ports are covered by black caps.

DIY people can buy a kit at the parts store and add a can or two if the system is just low.
The kit is a gauge and hose that connects to one of the service ports on the ac line and takes the cans of freon.
Freon gas is about minus 30 degrees coming out of the can.

it is behind the engine , at the right down on an ac line.it should have a plastic cap which unscrews, if it is missing there will be a fitting which will fit your ac fill hose. it is best to have a long hose with a shut off valve,as at this location,taking off the hose after filling,is tough as it gets hot back there and if you need to add more than 1 can, you will lose r34 as you try to change cans without unhooking at the port,which is now hot, and is hard to hook up.

THERE IS A HIGH PRESSURE PORT AND A LOW
PRESSURE PORT.
THEY ARE USALLY ALONG THE RIGHT FENDER.
JUST LOOK FOR THE ALUMINUM TUBES.
THE PORTS MAY HAVE PLASTIC CAPS.

The low pressure refrigerant port is near the firewall, just after the receiver/dryer. You'll need a gauge and preferably an ac test manifold. You can use the manifold to add refrigerant up to the point where the system maintains the pressure level in the green area. There should be a blue cap on the low pressure valve.
I believe your malibu take's 12 ounce's of R134, don't over charger the system. You'll blow O rings and worst kill the A/C compressor.

follow the larger ac line of the to sizes until u come to a port it is the low side ,is the smaller port this is what u want

Several- The system should hold freon for years without leaking. There are pressure switches and they cut off the compressor with an undercharge and an overcharge. You need guages to measure the charge. There are testers the A/C shops have called "sniffers" which can detect a leak. If you have no leak then you need a technician to add or remove freon to get the concentration right. Or you need guages.

If u look under the hood on the passenger side u will see two lines comming from the AC compressor, follow the larger of those two lines back to the firewall behind the engine, near where it goes through the firewall to the inside of the car u will find a charging port.
